Lesson Plan # 24
Lab 4

Date: Wednesday, November 28, 2018

Supervisor: Aubrey Isakson
Lead Teacher: Melissa Reaves (Lesson #5)

Children Receiving Specific Focus Today:

1. Kate – Books
2. Scarlett – Creative Arts
3. Bennett – Blocks
4. Camilla – Dramatic Play
5. Simon – Dramatic Play
6. Graham – Dramatic Play
7. Jackson – Blocks
8. Emma – Creative Art

Preassessment and Findings:

Based on Preassessment, I have planned the following activities for our children to increase their
knowledge about emergency vehicles. Many of our children have shown an interest in vehicles
and have shown some knowledge of fire trucks and police cars. The following children have
been planned for these activities:

Kate has been planned for the Books area. I have observed and pre-assessed that she enjoys
books and reading. She also knows how to hold books and turn the pages, so she will be able to
participate in this area

Scarlett and Emma have been planned for the Creative Art area. They both have been
observed at the creative art table many times. Each of them enjoys drawing, color, and create.
This activity will let them each do all of those things. Scarlett and Emma know how to use art
tools and will know what to do with the tools at this activity.

Bennett and Jackson have been planned for the block area. Each of them has been observed
in the block area. They each enjoy building and creating which is what they will be able to do in
the block area. All three of them know how to play with blocks and will know what to do with
the toys in this activity.

Camilla, Simon and Graham have been planned for the Dramatic Play area. They each have
been observed spending time at the dramatic play area. Each child has shown an interest in
imaginary play and have shown that they understand how to play pretend.

Some misconceptions found through preassessment has been that the children don’t know
what emergency personnel are, they don’t know that fire fighters and police officers can help us
in other ways than catching bad guys and putting out fires, and they don’t seem to know that
emergency vehicles come whenever we need help. From what I was able to gather the
children seem to think that police cars and firetrucks only come when there’s a fire or when
trying to catch a bad guy. Each of these misconceptions will be addressed and taught to the
children as ideas to be emphasized.

1
Ideas to be Emphasized and Overall Developmental Focus:
1. Emergency vehicles come when we need help.
2. The people that operate the emergency vehicle are called emergency personnel.
3. Firefighters and police officers help us.
