The concept of meaning
The interpretation of meaning has many types, there are semantically and pragmatically. For
semantic the researcher use the semantic meaning requires at least 3 based on Kempson
(1984). Then he says that sometimes word order will change the meanin, and sometimes not.
For example, A words and sentences can be ambiguous in diff ways and may confuse the reader
to get intended meaning. also the researcher quote grom Coulthard (1989), language only
meaningful in its context situation. In brief, the reader or the listener have to know the context
also the situation, the expression of the writing or the conversation. For anlyze the meaning of
sentence, it needs to be discuss in syntactic generalization which are stated in terms of two
syntag levels, surface tructure which is the words is used in a sentence and deep structure, the
real meaning of the sentence. In understanding the meaning, sometimes people do not
recognize or maybe wrong interpretating. It is because the vagueness, which has 4 types, those
are referential, indetermacy, lack of specification in the meaning of an item, and disjunction.
Referential: it is the principal clear enough but it maybe hard to decide whether or not the item
can be applied to a certain object.
Indeterminacy of meaning: the meaning seems indeterminate where the interpreatation seems
quite intangible
, lack of specification in the meaning of an item where the meaning though in principle quite
clear is very general
Involves an either or statement of different interpretation possibilities.
