Abstract—Similar to the heat transfer coefficient, the prediction of pressure drop is also another
critical factor that should be considered while designing a condenser. Since the flow pattern
changes repeatedly, it is not easy to model two-phase flow especially liquid – vapor flow by CFD
analysis with the two-phase models of FLUENT when a horizontal tube is subjected to diabatic
conditions. In this study, to perform CDF analysis of two-phase flow refrigerant, a horizontal tube
with the inner diameter, 0.0085 m and 1.2 m length under adiabatic conditions with a homogeneous
model was selected. Different flow rates with varying temperatures of saturation have been chosen
to estimate the local frictional pressure drop. To obtain the common properties by using
homogenous modeling, three refrigerants, R22, R134a, and R107C, are used in the analysis, and
each of them assumed as a single-phase pseudo-fluid. Finally, the results of the analysis (pressure
drops) are compared with the literature work.
