Each battery bank comprises 22 numbers of plante type YKP25 cells connected in series and has

a rated capacity of 300AH at 10 Hours discharge rate at 27O C. Both battery bank is provided
with seismically supported mounting arrangement each located in a separate room in Turbine
Building operating floor 20668mm elevation) near SDV area.

Each battery bank is charged by their respective chargers CH1 and CH2 each rated for 60Amps,
60v dc supplied from 415v 3 phase 50Hz 5242-Class IV-MCC-J-cell No-J16.1 and 5242-Vlass IV-
interrupted for short time are supplied by two numbers of diesel generator units during failure
of normal feeds and backed by DG-5 which is common for both the units

Two diesel units are capable of supplying essential service loads continuously in the event of loss
of normal supply. However, one DG unit by itself has insufficient capacity to supply all the
essential class-III & II loads. Under these conditions, load shedding of less essential loads will be
initiated. After this limited load shedding condition, estimated worst case of combination of
running loads is 1675 KW. As a back up if the load on DG is above DG rating (1400 KW) or
frequency is below 47.5 Hz., some more loads which can be tripped under extreme power
shortage will be shed. The estimated worst case of combination of running loads after limited
and total load shedding is 1540 KW

Main purpose of emergency transfer is to re-establish power supply to class-II buses and
maintain continuity of class-II supply during loss of normal feeds

Each battery bank is charged by their respective chargers CH1 and CH2 each rated for 60Amps,
60v dc supplied from 415v 3 phase 50Hz 5242-Class IV-MCC-J-cell No-J16.1 and 5242-Vlass IV-
MCC-C-cell No-C13.2. These rectifiers’ floats the battery at a cell voltage of 2.23v per cell. It is
provided with current limiting device, soft start feature and over voltage protection. The output
of BB1 is paralleled with the output of BB2 through 300Amps MCCBs located in each Battery
bank rooms and supplies to 5233-BU-Z
