The Dionne Quintuplets experienced a rough childhood where they were cruelly
exploited for money. The quintuplets were born 2 months premature and had to
spend most of their time in the hospital. As they grew older, they were taken out of
their parent’s custody unwillingly. In my opinion, this action was unfair regarding
the parents and children’s will. The government treated the Dionne Quintuplets as
if they were profitable objects that could be owned. I think it is cruel and inhumane
to take away innocent children’s childhoods and replace them with no privacy and
exploitation. The children were visited with more than 6000 visitors each day.

Even after the Dionne Quintuplets were returned back into their parents’ custody,
their lives weren’t getting better at all. They were once again put on display for
hundreds to see. The quintuplets generated more than half a billion dollars while
they were on “show” in the hospital. Their money also came from oatmeal and
corn syrup advertisements. However, they only received 4 million dollars as
compensation when they were grown-ups

I feel deeply sorry for the Dionne Quintuplets because losing their childhood was
something that they can never get back. I understand that having five identical
brothers and sisters could be considered unique, but going to the extreme of putting
actual human beings on display is just over the line. I hope that now in the 21st
century, people can understand how unfair it was to do this and no more
quintuplets will be treated this way.
