“For human beings… to destroy the biological diversity of God’s creation; for human beings to degrade
the integrity of the earth by causing changes in its climate, by stripping the earth of its natural forests or
destroying its wetlands; for human beings to contaminate the earth’s waters, its land, its air, and its life
– these are sins.”

We all know that we are part of God’s creation. Meaning we are part of nature. Sometimes we forget
that we came from the roots and dusts of the Earth, but now we became the real threat to the life on
Earth. In the drawing, the bodies of the persons were not complete. It symbolizes that we are not
perfect. Even though we have flaws, we still have the intellect which makes us more special that the
others. In the drawing, there is a person with hands. The hands symbolizes that we are free. God has
given all of us the absolute ability to makes choices in life. We have the ability to choose good or evil,
right or wrong, self or others. Unfortunately, from the beginning of time, we have chosen evil quite
often. Many argue that mankind is generally good. Actually, mankind is generally bad. Because of our
work, we tend to make it a habit that we are deceiving ourselves into thinking that we do not have the
freedom to make choices because of the potential consequences of it. We have that male thinking in
which we use and abuse nature because of money. In the drawing there is no life & everything is dark
Smoke is coming out of the person’s head because what we do to nature will always come back to us
because we are part of nature.

There is an urgent need for radical change because people see no other meaning to earth than an
immediate use and consumption. We people should replace consumption with sacrifice, greed with
generosity, wastefulness with a spirit of sharing. Humans play a vital role in nature just like everything
else. What separates us from nature though, is the ability to understand our place within it. In the
second drawing, the person has no hands. The person removes all temptations because of free will. In
order to achieve a sustainable future, it is imperative that we reconsider our role and relationship with
nature. We should keep in mind that nature does not need us but we need nature. Nature also has its
essence and it is part of God’s gift to us that is why we should take care of it.
