The Mother with One Eye

Assalamualaikum wr wb. The honourable juries and audiences. Let me sing for you. (Mother, how are you
today. Here is a note from your daughter. With me everything is okay. Mother how are you today)

Have you ever listened to that song? The title is Mother how are you today by Maywood. The reason why I
sang that song because my story is about a mother’s love. Here is the story. The mother with one eye.

Long time ago, there was a mother with her daughter. Let’s call them Zeynep and Ella. Unfortunately the
mother only had one eye. She worked at her daughter’s school as a cook. One day the mother checked her
daughter in the classroom.

“my daughter, how is your class?”, said the mother

Suddenly, Ella's friends laughed at her. They made fun of her mother. She was very embarassed.

“please, go away. You make me a laughing stuff.

Ella's friends kept making jokes about her mother almost everyday. When the mother came again to the
classroom, Ella's friends laughed a lot.

Ella was full of anger. She screamed to his mother. “If you’re only gonna make me a laughing stock, why
don’t you just die?” then Ella left her mother.

Time passed by, It was Ella's 14th birthday. She had graduated from his school. Zeynep had saved some
money for years to buy a gift for that special moment.

“My dear daughter, happy birthday and happy graduation. Here is for you.” said the mother

Can you guess? Not a smartphone, a motorcycle nor game console.

“a pair of boots? I am not a kid anymore. I am leaving now. Don’t bother yourself anymore to take care of
me. I’ll never come back.”

“wait, where are you going? Please stay with me....” before she finished her words, Ella had left.

Many years later. Ella lived far away from her hometown. He got married. She bought a big house. He had
two children.

One day, when her children were playing in the yard, an old woman came near the gate.

“how cute you are”, said the old woman. But the children were suprised. They screamed. Suddenly Ella
came. “shoo shoo!! How dare you making my children scared. GO AWAY. NOW!”

The old woman quietly answered, “Oh, I’m so sorry. I may have gotten the wrong address.” and she
disappeared out of sight.

One day, a letter regarding a school reunion came to Ella’s house. So she lied to her husband that she was
going on a business trip. After the reunion, she went to the old shack just out of curiosity.

Her neighbors said that her mother died. She did not shed a single tear. They handed her a letter that her
mother had wanted her to have.

“My dearest daughter,

I think of you all the time. I’m sorry that I came to your house and scared your children. I was so glad when I
heard you were coming for the reunion. But I may not be able to even stand to see you. I’m sorry that I was
a constant embarrassment to you when you were growing up. You see when you were very little, you got
into an accident, and lost your eye. As a mother, I couldn’t stand watching you having to grow up with one
eye. So I gave you mine.

I was so proud of my daughter who was seeing a whole new world for me, in my place, with that eye.

With all my love to you,

Your mother.”

"What have I done. What have I done... God, I want my mother back. Give her back, God... Please..."

Ella cried. It was useless. The mother would never come again. It became Ella's regret that lasted for the rest
of her life.

Dear juries and audiences. This story tell us to respect our mothers greatly. We should love our mothers
just like our mothers love us. Remember, they won’t be around us forever.
