Dear Mrs. McFadden,

Senior year is about figuring out how to apply to colleges while still maintaining good grades. An
additional thing that is characteristic of senior year is having to complete the graduation project. In the
Charlotte Mecklenburg School district, each senior must finish their graduation project because it is one
of the graduation requirements. This project was started during junior year, and has continued to develop
throughout my senior year. In order maintain interest in my project during both years, I have centered it
around an aspect that is an essential part of becoming a physician. The topic I chose for my graduation
project is the importance of bedside manner.

My topic was focused on researching and learning about why bedside manner is important, gaining
experience in a medical setting, and discovering what constitutes “good” bedside manner. Therefor, my
product should be used as an opportunity to teach peers what I have learned from my research and
experience in the clinical field. I will relay this information through a presentation which I will target at
other high school students who are interested in pursuing a career within the medical field.

The presentation will cover what bedside manner is, why it is important to have a good bedside manner,
and how to implement the information I am giving them into their future work experience. Sharing this
information with high school students will help them develop their skills in bedside manner, and
encourage them to pursue more opportunities that will expose them to interacting with patients. Following
the presentation, I am going to give a survey to the audience to receive feedback on how informative the
presentation was, what area of medicine they are interested in, and if they will now place more emphasis
on improving the skills that are relevant to bedside manner.

I plan to use this presentation to spark interest in the subject of bedside manner, and I hope that many of
them will continue to consider bedside manner as they continue on their journeys into the field of
medicine.
