I would like to acknowledge the effort and time that my co-adviser,
Professor Jerry E. Lowder, has spent in editing and correcting this
manuscript. The outline and direction of my work came completely from
his clear guide. Many helpful discussions with him and his prompt and
efficient corrections made the completion of this document possible. I
am greatly indebted to him for valuable guidance and encouragement.
I sincerely express my respect and thanks to my adviser, Professor
Sylvia Zarenba, for her prestigious accomplishments as a piano performer
and for preparing me for the six piano recitals during my M.M. and
D.M.A. work, I am especially grateful as she cated for me in various
ways during my student life at The Ohio State University. She provided
disciplined education while offering personal support and direction.
I am also grateful to Professor Marshall Barnes for his careful
reading of the manuscript and for having served as a committee member of
my DMA program. I found my graduate coursework with him to be enjoyable
and helpful for preparing this document.
Special thanks is expressed to my husband. The early years of our
marriage, combined with simultaneous graduate studies and raising of our
three young children, was probably the most difficult and busiest time
in our lives. However, our mutual respect, understanding, patience, and
cooperation have made our lives rich and fruitful.
