Abstract

This paper discusses the role of media in the production of social identity of the transsexual in
Pakistan. Research on media and transsexual conclude that media has the ability to aid in the
production of social identities, in which the ability is said to be “most powerful and important
effect” (Ringo, 2002As all over the world, there is rampant transphobia in print as well as
electronic media. Negative representation of transgender people in the Pakistani media is one of
the many forms of discrimination which transgender people have to face routinely. the present-
day transgender representation in the Pakistani media is just reinforcing this legacy of negative
stereotypes. , the transgender portrayals in the Pakistani media have emerged as a subject of
growing cultural and social attention. Objective of this study is To evaluate the media
representation of transgender identity and problems of transgender in Pakistan To assess the role
of media in rising the transgender issues in last two years public point of view. The researcher
selected the Survey Method for collecting the data ,the researcher has chosen the simple random
sampling survey method, because that method is suitable and most appropriate for the purpose of
research . in this study the universe is Rawalpindi Because it was an easy task of conducting the
thesis work to accomplish without any difficulty or even a little hamper.. This study is primary
based survey comprising the questionnaire that was distributed in 100 respondents. This study
makes it clear that people are now getting aware about the right of transgender portrayed by the
media. Results of this study shows some how media is portraying transgender in positive ways.
This study also suggests that action needs to be taken to address widespread prejudice against
transgender people within the society. And it also suggest that government of Punjab and
Pakistan should take step for the betterment of the transgender’s life they should give facilities
of education and jobs. Study based recommendation are these that coordination should be
increase between media regulatory bodies and transgender people and a commitment must be
offered from larger media outlets to provide training on transgender issues to their staff.
