ABSTRACT

Background: Dengue Hemorrhagic Fever (DHF) is one of the public health problems in
Indonesia. Until now there are no drugs and vaccines have been found to effectively prevent
DHF. Preventive work to prevent DHF transmission is by termination of transmission chain
by prevention of aedes aegepty mosquito bites, which is a behavior of mosquito breeding
eradication (PSN. This study aims to explore the knowledge and behavior of mosquito
breeding eradication (PSN) related to the incidence of DHF.

Method: This is a study with case control design. This study conducted at Jambi city at July
2018. Samples obtained by probability sampling techniques with a total sample of 88
respondents with ratio 1:1 of cases and controls. Data for this study obtained from primary
data, which obtained by interview and observation. The variables in this study are knowledge,
draining of water containers (TPA), closing water containers (TPA), and utilizing/ recycling
used goods with the incidence of DHF. Data was analyzed by Chi square test with CI: 95%
and α = 0.05.

Result: The respondents are 39.8% late adult (36 – 45 years old), 70.5% are women, 45.5%
graduated from SLTA/MA, and 45.5% are housewife. The factors associated with the
incidence of DBD are knowledge, with p value = 0.017; OR = 3.2 (95% CI = 1.314- 7.793),
and closing water containers (TPA) with p value = 0.006; OR = 4.405 (95% CI = 1.617 –
12.002). While the factors not related to the incidence of DHF are drainage of water
containers (TPA) with p value = 0.125; OR = 2.177 (95% CI = 0,906-5,234) and utilizing/
recycling uses goods with p value = 0.519; OR = 0.529 (95% CI = 0,143-1,954).

Conclusion: There is a relationship between knowledge and closing TPA with the incidence
of DHF in Jambi City in 2018.
