Komodo is an endemic animal in East Nusa Tenggara.
IUCN included the existence of dragons in rare
categories. the scarcity of Komodo is caused by several things, namely hunting, fires, developing tourist attractions, and habitat destruction. Komodo hunting is often done in the wild. the reason for hunting is usually to get dragons to be sold on the black market, so this directly affects the population of dragons in the wild. Komodo dragon population on Padar Island Since 2000 no longer found, there is no more Komodo droppings there. according to Ramang Isaka (head of management of Komodo National Park in 2008) between 1980 and 1990, there are still many Komodo dragon populations on the island. but because of the actions of the hunters who burned the forest in the region, the movement of the Komodo dragon was increasingly squashed. as a result dozens of dragons are trapped in these fires which caused the extinction of the Komodo dragon on the island. Another cause of Komodo becoming scarce is the development of tourist attractions. The fame of Komodo Island in the eyes of the world attracted the attention of domestic tourists and foreign tourists to visit Komodo Island. Therefore, the place of tourist attraction was built on Komodo Island. hence, the extent of Komodo habitat is diminishing and threatening the Komodo population. Construction of tourist attractions produces damage to the Komodo habitat. besides that natural disasters such as earthquakes can also cause damage to Komodo habitat. damage to Komodo habitat results in a more threatened Komodo dragon population. The decline of the Komodo dragon has encouraged the government to participate in efforts to protect Komodo, among others by building the Komodo Island National Park, banning hunters and trafficking of Komodo organs, and punishing the perpetrators of hunting these rare animals.
