2. What is the equipment that can be used to measure viscosity?

If the equipment is not available, how can you measure

viscosity?

The equipment used to measure viscosity is viscometer also called viscosimeter. Rheometer is used for liquids with
viscosities varies with flow conditions whereas viscometers are used for liquids with one flow condition. There are 6 types
of viscometers, which are orifice viscometer, capillary viscometer, falling piston viscometer, roataional viscometer, falling
ball viscometer and vibrational viscometer. If the equipment is not available, we can conduct parallel plate experiment
where 2 plates are held in parallel with a fluid in the middle, the top plate move and the bottom plates stays in place. This
will generate a velocity profile which can be used to measure the fluids’ viscosity. Another way to determine viscosity of
fluid without viscometer is using Zahn-Cup. Zahn Cup is a small container with a handle and a small hole in the bottom.
The time it takes to empty the cup through the hole is correlated to viscosity.
