SURVEY AND OBSERVATION NARRATIVE REPORT

The Process:

I conducted the survey and observation last March 5, 2019. Due to my busy schedule, I
wasn’t able to conduct on the exact schedule that was given to us. When I first arrived at Rizal
Elementary School I went directly to the principal’s office to have a courtesy call, unfortunately she
was not around, but the OIC catered me. Since I was already late for the scheduled observation, I
wasn’t able to observe on the grade level that was assigned to me. In order to have my survey and
observation, another teacher in music catered me and she was teaching music grade 4.

Class Observation:

Class observed: GRADE 4

Teacher: Ms. Liezl M. Villar
School: Rizal Elementary School
Date of Observation: March 5, 2019
Lesson Observed: Music
Observer’s name: Serjoe Orven Gutierrez
Observer’s designation/position: MMEd Student

Medium of instruction: English and Hiligaynon

Materials used:
- Laptop
- Projector
- Wide screen
- Speakers

Lesson Proper:

Ms. Villar started the class with a prayer, as a faculty in a religious school, I was awed that
Ms. Villar also practices this routine. After the prayer, she sets the mood of the students in order to
prepare them for the lesson proper. She started her lesson by presenting the objectives for their
lesson, and after which she recalled the previous lesson in order to connect it to the new topic.

Discussion:

The new lesson is about the rondalla and the instruments that composes the rondalla
ensemble. The teacher provided pictures of the different instruments and also as well as the
definition of each instrument. The Bandurria, Octavina, Laud, Guitar(Gitara), Baho de onyas(bass).
The pupils were amazed of the different instruments.

All of the pupils were participating actively in the discussion also as well in the oral
recitation. After the discussion, Ms. Villar showed the class 2 video clips of a rondalla ensemble in
order for them to recognize and understand more the purpose of the different instruments in the
rondalla. She ended the class with an evaluation through a game, she divided the class into five
groups. After the game Ms. Villar also gave follow up evaluation question.

Interview, Comments and Suggestions:

Ms. Villar presented her lesson in a very smooth manner, even she is not a Music Major. She
told me that her major is Araling Panlipunan. She handles all the grade 4 MAPEH, she said it is easy
for her because she only have one preparation and that helped her master the lessons and topics
more. As I observed Ms. Villar, I can see that she really engages well with the pupils. She could let
the students understand the lesson in a simple but yet meaningful way. The things that I suggested
if that maybe the school can provide the real instrument so that the students can also have a hands
on or maybe just look and feel the real instruments of the rondalla. But Ms. Villar told me that she
have a personal bandurria and octavina, also she showed me a picture of the baho de onyas that she
uses in class, but the instruments was not available that time. I also suggested that she could join
workshops and seminars for music in order to gain more knowledge of the subject matter.
