A 3-m-thick wide fill (γ = 19 kN/m3) is placed over a soil profile consisting of 6m of plastic clay
(γ = 16 kN/m3, e0 = 1.7, Cc = 1.2, σ'p/σ'vo = 1.4, Cr/Cc = 0.15) over 10m of organic silt (γ =
16 kN/m3, e0 = 1.2, Cc = 0.8, σ'p/σ'vo = 1.0, Cr/Cc= 0.1, and Cα/Cc = 0.06) over dense sand.
The water table is at the surface of the plastic clay.

Compute the settlement resulting from:

(a) Primary consolidation of the plastic clay, and
(b) Consolidation of organic silt after 30 years assuming that primary consolidation is
completed in 7 years.
