MORTUI VIVOS DOCENT

( THE DEAD TEACH THE LIVING )

GENERAL RULES AT THE DISSECTING ROOM.

MORTUI VIVOS DOCENT ( THE DEAD TEACH THE LIVING ) is an

universal basic principle that must always be remembered by every medical
students and those who study Anatomy on cadaver.
Universally, MORTUI VIVOS DOCENT means that medical students
learn from the dead so the cadavers also become their teacher.
Based on MORTUI VIVOS DOCENT every medical student who works
on cadavers must obey Code of Ethic of Anatomy as follows :

Students :

1. 1. Prepare him / herself for Laboratory practice, including :

1.1. Study the Lab. Manual accordingly before coming to Dissection Room.
1.2. Bring along Anatomy dissecting instruments ( minimum 1 for each group )
1.3. Must bring along Lab. Manual, Anatomy atlas and ( if necessary )
anatomy lecture materials
1.4. Wear Laboratory dress properly
2. Respect the cadavers as the students respect their teachers.
3. NOT Allowed to take cadavers photo and video.
4. NOT make fun of cadavers or parts of the cadavers whatever the condition of
the cadavers or parts of the cadavers might be.
5. NOT throw part of the cadaver if his / her fellow student wants to borrow the
specimen
6. Give / take directly the specimen from his / her fellow student if he / she wants
to lend / borrow the specimen.
7. NOT damage cadavers or parts of the cadavers on purpose or for fun.
8. NOT playing during practise in the lab
9. Work very carefully to avoid accidents from dissection instruments.

.WEEK ( LABORATORY ) THREE ; OCTOBER 25 , 2017

TOPICS : GROSS ANATOMY OF REPRODUCTIVE SYSTEM

COMPETENCY AREA : 5

COMPETENCY LEVEL : 4A ( ABLE TO IDENTIFY )

LEARNING OBJECTIVES :

After finished laboratory practice Student should be able to identify :

1. Female and male genital organs.

2. Relations of pelvic bones, joints, ligaments and pelvic floor with the birth canal/passage
3. Abdominal cavity and relation between the peritoneum and pelvic structures of both
genders.
4. Pelvic superficial anatomy in relation to the birth canal.

ATTENTION FOR STUDENTS :

To achieve the learning objectives Students at Dissection Room do the following

procedures :

1. Review and finished Male and Female Reproductive organs from previous
Laboratory Practice.
2. Discuss among the group differences of the pelvic inlet and outlet.
3. Identify at the specimen pelvic inlet and outlet. Look for :
3.1. Boundaries of pelvic inlet ( apertura pelvis superior )
3.1.1. Promontorium
3.1.2. Arcuate line ( linea arcuata)
3.1.3. Pubic symphysis ( symphysis pubis )
3.2. Boundaries of pelvic outlet ( apertura pelvis inferior )
3.2.1. Anterior triangle (trigonum anterior,urogenital triangle,trigonum urogenitalia )
3.2.1.1. Intertuberous line ( linea intertuberosa )
3.2.1.2. Ischiopubis rami ( rami ischiopubica )
3.2.1.3. Symphysis pubis
3.2.2. Posterior triangle (trigonum posterior, anal triangle, trigonum analis )
3.2.2.1. Intertuberous line ( linea intertuberosa )
3.2.2.2. Sacrotuberous ligament ( ligamentum sacrotuberosum )
3.2.2.3. Coccyx ( coccygeus )

2
4. Discuss among the group :
4.1. What is the name of the anatomical structure that covers anterior and posterior
triangle of pelvic outlet.
4.2. What is the name of anatomical structures ( organs ) that pass through the
anterior and posterior triangle of pelvic outlet.
4.3. What is pelvic inclination ( inclinatio pelvicum ) ?
4.4. What is pelvic axis ( axis pelvicum )? . What is its clinical application especially
in parturition ( process of labour )?
5. Identify at the specimen landmarks of the pelvic connected to labour processes. Look for:
5.1. Pelvic inlet ( apertura pelvis superior )
5.2. Pubic symphyseos ( symphysis pubis )
5.3. Ischial spine ( spina ischiadica )
5.4. Coccyx ( coccygeus )
6. Discuss among the group imaginary planes of the pelvic connected to descendens of
the lowest part of foetus..

SPECIMENS :

1. Pelvic bone
2. Cadaver
3. Reproductive organs.
4. Plastinates.
