Name: Tri-Circles

Classification: Memory Strategies (Creating mental linkage – associating/elaborating)

Purpose: For students to master the concept and usage of four demonstrative pronouns (this – that –
these – those)

Main Idea/Usage: Differentiating the usage of demonstrative pronouns this (singular) and these (plural)
to talk about people or things near us and that (singular) and those (plural) to talk about people or
things not near us.

Steps:

1) Introduce the symbols and what they represent.

2) Introduce the images and their meanings.

3) Teacher introduce the sentence structure; This (noun) ..., That (noun)..., These (noun)..., Those
(noun)...
4) Teacher demonstrates how to use the strategy.
- Teacher gets a student to stand in front of the class.
- Teacher gives a book to the student.
- The student say the correct sentence structure based on the number of the thing (book) and
its proximity to us (student).
- Teacher takes the book from the student and put the book away from the student.
- The student say the correct sentence structure based on the number of the thing (book) and
its current proximity to us (student).
- Teacher takes the book and add few more books and give them to the student.
- The student say the correct sentence structure based on the number of the thing (books)
and its current proximity to us (student).
- Teacher takes the books and put them away from the student.
- The students say the correct sentence structure based on the number of the thing (books)
and its current proximity to us (student).

Examples: Change the thing (book) with other things (pencil, table, chair, person, etc.)
