Satan, Evolution and the Book of Job

By Milton Castro-Núñez

A while ago I gave a sermon about the book of Job. At that time I took the following

approach: firstly, I read a number of accusations made by a number of authors publishing

in literature from the world wide church of God. Some of these accusations involved:

Job not being teachable; of being a self-oriented person; of having an attitude of doing

God a favor; of justifying his own sins; of having a problem of vanity; of having a

problem of self-righteousness. Secondly I examined those accusations according to the

scriptures and found that they were unsubstantiated. God talked about Job in a very

complementary way; indeed God starts by talking about Job in an unusual amount of time

and more importantly, in a very, very complementary way. The question I constantly

asked was: “If Job had a problem of self-righteousness, how come God never says

anything about it in the 42 chapters of the book? If these a book about self-righteousness,

how come God never says anything about?

Today, I would like to explore a connection that perhaps you have never seen or heard

about before. I have always asked myself; if Satan is so smart how come he is fighting

God, his creator? If Satan knows God is more powerful than him why is he fighting God?

What is on Satan’s mind that makes him believe that he can defeat God? If you were

asked to fight Wladimir Klitschko, would you take the challenge? If you do not know,

Wladimir Klitschko is a Ukrainian professional boxer who competes as a heavyweight.

He is the reigning world champion of four sanctioning bodies, holding the titles of the

WBA, IBF, WBO, and IBO, and is recognized by boxing publication The Ring magazine
as its world heavyweight champion. A highly strategical boxer, Klitschko is considered

by some to be one of the greatest heavyweight champions of all time, and is also thought

to be among the hardest punching knockout artists in the history of the division, with his

strong jab, straight right hand and left hook being his best weapons. Klitschko won a gold

medal at the 1996 Olympics and has held a portion of the world heavyweight

championship since 2006, when he defeated Chris Byrd to win the IBF title and the IBO

title. He won the WBO title by defeating Sultan Ibragimov in 2008, was awarded The

Ring championship following his defeat of Ruslan Chagaev in 2009, and won the WBA

title from David Haye in 2011. Klitschko is also recognized as champion by the

Transnational Boxing Rankings Board, and is considered by many to be the lineal

heavyweight champion. He is also recognized by the WBA as one of its "Super

Champions", a distinction given to boxers who hold that title in addition to other belts in

the same division. Overall, he is the second longest reigning heavyweight champion of all

time and has the second most successful title defenses total of any heavyweight boxer

with 23, behind Joe Louis (25) and ahead of Larry Holmes (20) and Muhammad Ali (19).

Klitschko currently has 18 consecutive title defenses, behind Louis' 25 and Holmes' 20.

On 14 September 2015, BoxRec rated Klitschko as the number one pound for pound

fighter in the world. Now that you know a little more about this gentleman, would you

take the challenge to fight him?

Why is it clear to us that Satan, whom is labelled the adversary, cannot win a fight

against God but Satan thinks he can defeat God? You might say, well, Satan is our
adversary not God’s; then I ask, then why did Satan rebel? Why would he go against the

rulings of the Almighty, someone greater than him? Why... The book of Job may give us

some answers if looked from a different perspective. Today I would like to share this

perspective with you.

Let’s Start today by reading John 1:1-3. It reads: In the beginning was the Word, and the

Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was in the beginning with God. All

things were made through Him, and without Him nothing was made that was made.

These verses denote the most remote time in history where only two beings, God and the

Word existed, at this point in time nothing else existed. Let’s turn now to Ezekiel 1. The

title of this chapter is Ezekiel’s vision of God. From the description of this chapter it is

evident that there are a number of angles for specific functions and appearances. Let’s

just read from verse 5 to verse 12, these verses read: Also from within it came the likeness

of four living creatures. And this was their appearance: they had the likeness of a man.

Each one had four faces, and each one had four wings. Their legs were straight, and the

soles of their feet were like the soles of calves’ feet. They sparkled like the color of

burnished bronze. The hands of a man were under their wings on their four sides; and

each of the four had faces and wings. Their wings touched one another. The creatures did

not turn when they went, but each one went straight forward. As for the likeness of their

faces, each had the face of a man; each of the four had the face of a lion on the right side,

each of the four had the face of an ox on the left side, and each of the four had the face of

an eagle. Thus were their faces. Their wings stretched upward; two wings of each one
touched one another, and two covered their bodies. And each one went straight forward;

they went wherever the spirit wanted to go, and they did not turn when they went. What I

would like to bring forward here is that before man God created many things and one of

those things were Angeles. It appears that Angles were created before Satan, even the

Archangels Gabriel and Michael. Let’s now read Ezekiel 28 “You were the seal of

perfection, Full of wisdom and perfect in beauty. You were in Eden, the garden of God;

Every precious stone was your covering: The sardius, topaz, and diamond, Beryl, onyx,

and jasper, Sapphire, turquoise, and emerald with gold. The workmanship of your

timbrels and pipes was prepared for you on the day you were created. “You were the

anointed cherub who covers; I established you; you were on the holy mountain of God;

You walked back and forth in the midst of fiery stones. You were perfect in your ways

from the day you were created, till iniquity was found in you.” Now, Revelations 12:4 we

read that: His tail drew a third of the stars of heaven and threw them to the earth. What I

would like to bring forward here is that Satan was able to convince 1/3 of the angles to

follow him and 2/3 remain with God. Now, the billion dollar question: What made Satan

rebel? Before we attempt to answer this question let’s read Hebrews 11:1-3 it says: Now

faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen. For by it the

elders obtained a good testimony. By faith we understand that the worlds were framed by

the word of God, so that the things which are seen were not made of things which are

visible. What this verse is telling us is that God created this universe from nothing. Note

what is says: By faith we understand that the worlds were framed by the word of God, so

that the things which are seen were not made of things which are visible. We must
believe that the universe was made by God from nothing. Let’s read now Hebrews 11:6;

it says: But without faith it is impossible to please Him, for he who comes to God must

believe that He is, and that He is a rewarder of those who diligently seek Him. We must

start believing that he is; even before we conclude that he exist. It has to grow in faith.

There are two fundamental concepts here that are found also in the entirety of the bible

they are: 1) one must believe that He is, not that He exist but that He is & 2) one must be

diligent seeker of God.

God created this universe from nothing; thus, Lucifer was not there. Thus, at one point

Lucifer must have come to realize the existence of a fundamental concept in the universe;

time –the rotation of the heavenly bodies. Scientists call this variable, the fourth

dimension. It is easy to see perceive length, depth and heights but we cannot picture the

forth variable, time, in a tridimensional space. A number of things were created prior to

the creation of Satan. When he became conscious of time; there was something there

already. He watched, he saw the stars, and all living things that God put on the earth.

Lucifer saw God create many things but he did not see God bring something into being

from nothing. As Lucifer did not see God bring something from nothing he would have to

trust that God is actually capable of bringing something from nothing; just in the same

way we believe God is capable of such an act. It is possible to conceive that Lucifer may

have persuaded himself about a concept universally accepted today, evolution. Did God

evolved? Notice, When Lucifer appeared in the scene; many things were already there;

where did they come from? More importantly, how did God come to be? What could
have gone in Lucifer’s mind were he would consider himself equal with God? Lucifer

may have asked himself: am I a result of evolution? Clearly, I am the seal of perfection, I

can see all the other angles, and, I am not only better than them but a better fit to the

universe. Before we delve a little deeper into this le’s read a little bit about evolution.

The theory of evolution by natural selection, first formulated in Darwin's book "On the

Origin of Species" in 1859, is the process by which organisms change over time as a

result of changes in heritable physical or behavioral traits. Changes that allow an

organism to better adapt to its environment will help it survive and have more offspring.

The theory has two main points "All life on Earth is connected and related to each other,"

and this diversity of life is a product of "modifications of populations by natural

selection, where some traits were favored in and environment over others," In short,

evolved spices are better fit for the current environment than its predecessors.

Again, what made Lucifer come to the conclusion that he was as good as God. Think

about this: if we are twin brothers, what right do you have to govern me? If God and I

evolved; we both have the same right to be in the throne of the universe. With this in

mind let’s read now Isaiah 14:12:14, it says: How you are fallen from heaven, O Lucifer,

son of the morning! How you are cut down to the ground, You who weakened the

nations! For you have said in your heart: ‘I will ascend into heaven, I will exalt my

throne above the stars of God; I will also sit on the mount of the congregation On the

farthest sides of the north; I will ascend above the heights of the clouds, I will be like the

Most High. If Lucifer knew God could create something from nothing; how could Lucifer
take that one step to be equal with God? Somewhere along the line Lucifer had to stop

believing. You have to accept the word of God by faith. More importantly, either you

accept His word by faith or you go on your own. Satan must have stop obeying; however,

before he stopped obeying, he must have stopped believing. This made his thinking

change. Somewhere along the line Lucifer must have come doubtful of the fact that God

indeed was the supreme creator of the universe.

The most important decision we face in live is whether we believe God over our free

moral right. If we do not believe God, then our carnal mind deteriorates over time in the

same way Lucifer’s mind deteriorated and we come to believe what the new NKJ version

in Romans 1:25 calls: the lie. Please turn with me to Romans 1:25 –it reads: who

exchanged the truth of God for the lie, and worshiped and served the creature rather than

the Creator, who is blessed forever. Amen. Even after the Garden of Eden, people had the

truth but then they departed and believed the lie. What is the lie? This is the lie: you can

decide for yourself what is right for you; that is the lie brethren! You can decide for

yourself write and wrong. When this happens, we go so far away from god that we come

to propose theories such as the theory of evolution. More importantly, with evolution,

lawlessness is just a natural consequence. Please turn with me to 2 Thessalonians 2:9-12

which reads: The coming of the lawless one is according to the working of Satan, with all

power, signs, and lying wonders, and with all unrighteous deception among those who

perish, because they did not receive the love of the truth, that they might be saved. And

for this reason God will send them strong delusion, that they should believe the lie, that
they all may be condemned who did not believe the truth but had pleasure in

unrighteousness. If you move along this line, eventually you become totally blind. How

does this connect with Satan’s rebellion and the book of Job? Satan is not fighting God;

he is challenging God and God’s wisdom. What is the challenge? no creature, given the

opportunity to decide for himself between right and wrong, will decide for this path

rather than submitting to God. In other words, human beings cannot and do not willingly

submit to God given the opportunity to decide for themselves between right and wrong.

Creatures do not submit to God regardless of physical aspects. Facts: Satan compromised

Adam and Eve –they did not submit to God. The history of man before the flood shows

that they did not submit to God. One third of the Angles did not submit to God. In the

scientific world this is called evidence. With is in mind please turn with me to the book of

Job. There was a man in the land of Uz, whose name was Job; and that man was

blameless and upright, and one who feared God and shunned evil. Let’s jump to verse 6

Now there was a day when the sons of God came to present themselves before the LORD,

and Satan also came among them. 7 And the LORD said to Satan, “From where do you

come?” So Satan answered the LORD and said, “From going to and fro on the earth, and

from walking back and forth on it.” Then the LORD said to Satan, “Have you considered

My servant Job, that there is none like him on the earth, a blameless and upright man,

one who fears God and shuns evil?” Before I paraphrase the scene a little bit let me ask:

when God says: Have you considered My servant Job, what does God want Satan to

consider Job for? What is to be considered? In regards to what issue? Let me know

paraphrase or act the scene; it goes like this: Hey Satan, do you remember you said no
creature will willingly submit to me? Have you considered My servant Job. Satan strikes

back immediately: well... that proves nothing God; Does Job fear God for nothing?

Jumping down we read: stretch out Your hand and touch all that he has, and he will

surely curse You to Your face. God responds Behold, all that he has is in your power;

only do not lay a hand on his person. Satan hits Job and in a latter encounter with God

tells Satan, hey Satan; “Have you considered My servant Job, that there is none like him

on the earth, a blameless and upright man, one who fears God and shuns evil? And still

he holds fast to his integrity, although you incited Me against him, to destroy him without

cause.”Notice God says there is no cause to correct or reprimand Job. Again, Satan

strikes back immediately: well... that proves nothing God: “Skin for skin! Yes, all that a

man has he will give for his life. But stretch out Your hand now, and touch his bone and

his flesh, and he will surely curse You to Your face!” And the Lord said to Satan,

“Behold, he is in your hand, but spare his life. Satan hits Job again and makes him go

through an incredible amount of suffering nowhere else described in the bible for a

human being aside from Christ’s sufferings. An interesting word on Job 2:3 that does not

appear in Job 1 when God compliments Job is the word perfect. Let’s read it. And the

LORD said unto Satan, Hast thou considered my servant Job, that there is none like him

in the earth, a perfect and an upright man, one that feareth God, and escheweth evil? and

still he holdeth fast his integrity, although thou incited me against him, to destroy him

without cause. The word perfect is translated from teh Hebrew word tâm, tawm; strong’s’

H8552 and it means: complete, perfect, one who lacks nothing in physical strength,

beauty, etc. complete, morally innocent, having integrity. One who is morally and
ethically pure. The word occurs 13 times in 13 verses in the Hebrew concordance of the

KJV. Of the 13 time 7 are in relation to Job’s character. One appears in relation to Jacob

but commentaries are inclined to indicate the milder and placid dsipositon of Jacob as

opposed to the more furious character of Esau. Two time appears in book of psalms in

relation to the reward of righteous man Psalms 37:37 reads: Mark the perfect man, and

behold the upright: for the end of that man is peace. The other in relation to how the

wicked conspire to the righteous man Psalms 64:4 –which reads: That they may shoot in

secret at the perfect: suddenly do they shoot at him, and fear not. Finally, the other two

in the book of Songs of Solomon 5:2 and 6:9 and both in reference to the perfect mate.

We still might think that Job was arrogant because we wanted to speak to God and learn

what was happening. This approach goes against the scriptures; let’s read in Isaiah 1:18

that God encourages us to go to him in regards to our sin. Isaiah 1:18 reads: Come now,

and let us reason together,” Says the LORD, “Though your sins are like scarlet, They

shall be as white as snow; Though they are red like crimson, They shall be as wool. God

is willing to show us our sins and after repenting from them He will clean us.

What could be our take from the book of Job? Well, notice that if Lucifer would have

been able to corrupt Job; that would have brought a significant evidence that indeed man

is incapable of willingly submit to God. If Lucifer can prove that man cannot or does not

willingly submit to God then this would hamper God’s plan of salvation. We as Job can

endure the test if we apply the two fundamental concepts found in the entirety of the
bible, that is, one must believe that He is and one must be diligent seeker of God;

otherwise we fall into Satan’s trap.
