 Compare mass in grams and kilograms

II. SUBJECT MATTER

TOPIC: Mass
MATERIALS: weighing scale, real objects, pictures
REFERENCES: Teacher’s Guide pp. 409-423, Learner’s Material pp. 249-264

III. LEARNING ACTIVITIES

A. SETTING THE STAGE

B. EXPLAINING TO STUDENTS WHAT TO DO

Today, we are going to learn about Mass.

It is important to learn about mass to deeply understand how to measure an object.
We will measure objects and identify the appropriate unit of mass.

C. TEACHING/MODELLING

(Show a weighing scale to the class)

Ask:
What do I have here? Where do you usually see this? When do we use this?

Let us use this weighing scale to measure the objects that I have infront.
Model how to use the weighing scale. What is the mass of the object?
If the mass is heavy, we use Kilogram with the symbol kg.
In every kilogram, there is 1000 grams with the symbol g.
D. GUIDED PRACTICE

Now, I will divide the class into 4 groups. Each group will be assigned to different
corners of the room. There is an object to be measured in every corner and after a
minute, the group will move from one corner to another until all the objects have been
measured. List it on the table below.

4. 5.

7 Kilograms 10 Kilograms

F. CLOSURE

Pass a ball while playing a song. When the music stops, the one holding the ball will say
