I have not sent this to Rick. Please take my response and put itn a formal letter and make any corrections (e.g. if my facts are off) using track changes. Please add suggestions as well. Then send it off to John and clear risk, Call Next if you have questions/concems before sending to John and Clear Risk. Todd Rick, {Lam not soliciting officers on your behalf, | am seeking help on behalf ofthe citizens of Colfax because the Colfax Police Department needs serious help. ‘And contrary to the feedback | am getting from some citizens, the problems in the PD have litle to nothing to do with me, council, city administration or anyone else. Department operations are the Department Head's responsibilty and you continue to prove that you are unable to lead the Colfax Police Department Fact: At the beginning of last year there were at least 4 active part timers that you were employing above and beyond your department's (and the city's) means. And that was when the PD was fully staffed. Cory was employed but in the academy-—which we could have been reimbursed for the parttime help to cover his absence, but that opportunity was missed. And, you just let me know that those funds are not available this year. Fact: You have known your officers were/are seeking employment elsewhere longing than | have and yet nothing was getting wrote: ‘Todd, | would ike to know why you feat it is your place to solicit officers from other agencies on my behalf? You're making ‘comments about working around their schedules and overlapping shifts all without consulting me? And promoting the fact we have a (5 year old) Ford Taurus and (13 year old) Crown Vic is embarrassing, I've known for several weeks, as have you and Chris, that Matt was planning on leaving. Getting the parttime contract solidified has always been a priority of mine and, unless things change in Colfax (which | don't see happening) we will always have to rely on a constantly rotating pool of parttime officers. | can't understand why you feel spending money on reviewing the contract would be unwise. Personally and professionally | think i's a waste of money and resources to even question the contract they have put forth Itis my belief this “process is designed to disrupt the operations of the police department to cause an unecessary burden on my remaining officers and me. {uted txthiaden) Jenkins, Gary Mon, May 21, 2018 at 9:51 AM ‘To: Todd Vanek Ce: Rick MeNannay , Chris Mathis Todd, So far, there are two officers interested. One is Officer Emerson, who has already been working part-tine for Colfax. I instructed Officer Emerson to complete his overtime shifts that he has already signed up for, but not sign up for any additional shifts until we have a signed agreement. Just so you know, we are 3 positions down ourselves (one of those was recently filled by a lateral hire, but he still has 12 weeks of field training before he will be out on his own). So our staff is already working a lot of overtime and are not necessarily eager to take on additional overtime.
