Notes Ms, McKinney demonstartes an understanding of the content area being taught. She uses Investigations and the county curriculum map in her planning. The LT is posted and instruction supports the learning target. There is use of technology in whole group instruction. Strategies such as thumbs up thumbs down are used to formatively assess and engage students in assessing their learning, Key Indicator 2: Instructional Planning Effective 2. Notes ‘The learning target is posted and reviewed by teacher with students. The instruction provided supports the learning target. Some student engagement strategies are used such 2s thumbs updawn, coming to the board and questioning. Lesson plans are available inthe shared drive and inthe classroom. Learning targets are in the lesson plans. Students also write the student friendly LT in the math journal. ‘The teacher uses the smart Boar to work examples whole GrOUP with students as they work in their journals. Lesson plans are explict and include key vocab; closing; specific guiding questions; and information on stations. Key Indicator 3: Instructional Strategies Effective 3. Notes ‘Students are continually guided toward leaming target throughout lesson. Questions are used such as “expalin your reasoning’ to prompt students’ higher order thinking. Some students engagement strategies are used such as thumbs updown and working problems on the board, Students also work in math journals/notebooks to work examples as teacher formatively assess their work. Key Indicator 4: Assessment Strategies Effective 4. Notes ‘Teacher uses student work in math notebooks to formatively assess along with questioning whole group. Notes ‘Teacher accounts for stucients with various needs when forming groups for construction of fraction cards. ‘Teacher might consider equity sticks for use in whole groups seltings. Students do feel comfortable asking questions during whole ‘group discussion. Teacher monitors construction of fraction cards by walking around the room and provideing feedback ‘and guidance as needed. During the lesson, aides provide additional support for studnets with special needs, Teacher has also established math stations and groups to provide additional instruction. Notes Ms. McKinney treats her stucnets respectfully. Classtoom procedures are established to allow for students to engage in the leamning process. Feedback is given throughout the lesson and the teacher is prepared forthe lesson with activies! supplies. During the construction of the fraction cards students were allowed to work in gorups and collaborate.
