ABSTRACT

Design and fabrication of automatic gear transmission in two wheeler

Motor cycles are widely used around the world particularly in India. The gear shifting system of
motor cycle is conventionally manual. The present work covers the development of an
indigenous gear changing system for the standard motor cycle. By this system the manual
mechanical gear shifting will remain unchanged because of an additional electromechanical
system is placed on the top of the lever to shift the gear and to control the clutch automatically.

The system consists of a battery electronics control board, soft gear mechanism through which
the signals are given to the control board which with control the motor which will in turn change
the hard gear. The gear changing motor which is a stepper motor will rotate according to the gear
required. The electronic control board makes all the controls in the system. So, the system has
both the options to operate manually as well as automatically.

The automatic gear changer system is used to change gear in a tensionless manner. In this system
fuel power is not required to change the gear. So, the human energy will not be wasted. This type
of system can be implemented in vehicles.
