Objectives: To investigate the correlation between the focation and volume of the infarction in patients with acute ischemic stroke (AIS) ‘outcome. Methods: A hundred patients with AIS in several Hasanuddin University teaching hospitals in Makassar within one year were involved in the study. The AIS damage was assessed using the Canadian Neurological Scale (CNS) evaluation on the day of admission. Head CT Scan was performed within 168 hours of the stroke. Patients were evaluated with CNS results at day-10. Results: Stroke patient Participants were aged from 25 ~ 86 years (mean 59.2) and 58% ofthe patients were male, The time until hospital admission ranged from 1.5-168.0 hr. The result of a Spearman correlation test indicated that CNS obtained on day-10 had no correlation with age, onset of admission or the time when the head CT was done, However, CNS had @ negative correlation with the measured volume of infarction, The temporal infarction volume had the largest correlation coefficient (r=0.755) with CNS at day- 410. Lesion volume at the cut off point (cop) was 267.3 cc showed to has a good and bad prediction value 92.3% and 66.7%, respectively, temporal lobe cop 103.9 co has 99.3% and 57.1% respectively, frontal lobe cop 200.0 cc has 100.0% and 87.5% respectively, internal capsule COP 12,0 cchas 100.0% and 45.5% respectively and in thalamus cop 36.0 cc has $2.9% and 100.0%, respectively, Conclusion: The head CT Scan of the AlS patients demonstrated a potentially important role as a diagnostic as well as a prognostic tool. The volume and location of the lesion (infarction) as measured by head CT Scan can be used to predict the outcome of AIS. patients Key words: "T scan, stroke, infarction
