In Persepolis, Marjane's experience in the Islamic Revolution and the invasion of Iran by
Iraq builds her admiration for her revolutionaries and her country. While Marjane is explaining
the revolution in her country, and why she wants to be a part of the revolution she states.. “I
knew everything about the children of palestine. About Fidel Castro. About the young
Vietnamese killed by the Americans. About the revolutionaries of my country.” This quote
reveals that above all Marjane admires change and revolutionaries. It also reveals that one day
she hopes to be a revolutionary as well. Later in the book the Iraq vs Iran war takes place. In a
specific event during the war, Iraq bombs Tehran. After the bombing of Tehran the T.V came on
and played the National Anthem of Iran. The National Anthem caused Marjane to start crying.
She said “we were overwhelmed”. The statement and action carried out by Marjane reveal that
she loves her country. It also reveals that the war and the revolution intensify her love for her
own country and change. Overall, Marjane's experience in living in a country with constant war
and conflict cause her to build an admiration for her own country and revolutionaries around the
world.
