It can be fully pressur- ized and air conditioned, both in flight and on the ground. The mission of the airplane is to provide rapid transportation of personnel of cargo for delivery by parachute or by tan ing. The airplane can be used as a tactical transport carzying 92 ground troops or 64 para- troopa and cquipmont, and can be readily con- verted for ambulance or aerial delivery mis- sions. When used as an ambulance, the air- plane ean earry 78 litters. There are provi- sions for normal liferaft storage to accommo- date 80 persons for overwater flights. The C-130 can land and take off on short runways, and it ean be used on landing strips such as those usually found in advance base opera- tions. (See figures 1-1 through 1-7.) PROPULSION. Power is supplied by four Allison T56 turbo- prop cunstanit-speed eugiines (Figure 1-0). Bach engine drives a 4-blade Hamilton Standard hydromatic, constant-speed, full-feathering, re- versible-piteh propeller.
