History:
US Territory:
After WWII the Marshall Islands
were given to the US as a trust
THE ATOMIC BOMB DROPPED ON
territory. They did get partial THE BIKINI ATOLL
autonomy but had over 60
nuclear bombs dropped in
various atolls. They also built
numerous military bases and
testing sites. Of course this
wasn’t appreciated by some and
an independence movement
started.
Independence:
The Marshall Islands
became independent the
1st of May 1979 with
Palau and Micronesia
from the US. The four
signed a contract (that
Palau later left) stating
the future diplomatic
relations of the three.
Compact Of Free
Association:
The agreement stated that...
The US Will Stop
Missile Tests On The
RMI
The US Will Keep Its
Military Presence
The American
Military Will Defend
The RMI
The US Will Help
The RMI To Enter
The UN
Economical Support
Will Be Given To The
RMI
RMI Citizens can
freely travel and live
in the US
What’s Been Done:
The United States has kept its
financial promises and did
succeed in making the Marshall
Islands join the UN in 1991.
Unfortunately the effects of the
bombs still fill the islands and
the sea with radiation. The US
tried to solve this by building a
radiation dome on the Bikini THE DOME IS ONLY OPEN FOR
Atoll NUCLEAR TOURISM
Territorial Disputes:
The Marshall
Islands claims
Wake Islands as
part of its
territory
Taiwan Recognition:
The RMI recognize
Taiwan as a
sovereign country
and has since had
great relationships
with its government
