The book "Poisonous Snakes: Lessons from Colombia", whose principal authors are
Carlos Alberto Canas Dávila, Internist doctor Valle del Lili Foundation, and Fernando
Castro Herrera, a biologist at the Universidad del Valle - Cali, offers us a new and
updated text related to the biological and medical aspects of the poisonous snakes,
toxinológicos.
The authors and their immediate collaborators, have recognized qualifications and
experience to make this book written with depth, supported by cono¬cimientos and
universally accepted concepts, coherent, didactic and orien¬tado to disclose the
correct information and appropriate doctors and staff health mainly in rural areas, in
order to successfully face a medical emer¬gencia endangering life, as is the
envenomation by snakes.
It also serves to toxinólogos, biologists and animal scientists in general
profesio¬nales related work in the field, and health authorities and medical schools,
which have been forgotten a disease that plagues the poorest and most helpless
people in a tropical country like Colombia.
The book also is useful for public worship that is interested in learning about as
enigmatic as ambivalent, potentially harmful and beneficial for both ecological and
therapeutic aspect of their poisons animal.
The realization of the book is a prize to love, dedication and tenacious efforts of its
authors, on such an important topic of our condition; who should be very proud and
extremely pleased to deliver to Colombian and foreign scientific community, as worthy
and exciting work.
