Methodology

1. Residue of mature cover crop is used as a mulch to smother weed to eliminate and

minimize usage of tillage and cultivation.

2. Termination of cover crop is done mechanically using machine such as roller-crimper

without using herbicides thus creating in situ surface mulch.

3. At the same time of termination, cash crop is planted directly into cover crop mulch.

4. The techniques also employed usage of agronomical practise, cover crop

management, variety selection and mechanization.

Conclusion

Cover Crop-Based Reduced Tillage (CCBRT) is a sustainable system which helps to

minimize risk in agriculture production while contributing to ecosystem services. On-field

testing of this system over a decade shown that it is a competent tool to be used in agriculture

management that comes with direct and indirect benefits to agriculture, producer as well as

environment. Continuous research followed by integration by producer will lead to adoption

through experience and eventually helped with CCBRT system improvement to be

implemented in a wide range of environments and strategies.
