Position Paper

The country that we are representing is Mexico, the leader of their nation is, Enrique
Peña Nieto. The topic that is up at stake at the moment is with North Korea claiming to threaten
other countries with nuclear missiles. Mexico frequently continues to shut down all of the missile
launches from North Korea. In the year 2003, Mexico was a non-permanent member of the
United Nations Security Council. We want to propose peace building, having a conversation, and
economic sanctions to have this crisis to an end.
The first possible solution to the crisis that we would like to propose is peace building.
Peace building means an action that realizes and performs a set of peace in order to avoid a false
into conflict. Mexico and North Korea established diplomatic relations on September 4th, 1980.
This was 27 years after the end of the Korean War. In 2003, the relations between Mexico and
North Korea started going to a low when North Korea left from the Treaty on the
Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons. Since then, Mexico has repeatedly condemned all
missile launches from North Korea. I believe that, if we can come down to a conclusion on to
settle this dispute, we can have our country, others, and themselves safe. The plan to have this to
go into effect when the majority of us have come to an agreement that this is a great solution to
do in order to keep our countries safe.
A second solution is letting the both North Korea and South Korean government handle
this with negotiating to end all this conflict. This solution would work out the facts behind the
relationship Trump and Kim Jong-Un have. Also, with North Korea working towards putting
their emotions aside instead of continuing to be stubborn and to be selfish by wanting to destroy
a whole country. A possible goal can be having them notice multiple cons as to damaging
innocent people and creating a destruction. So therefore, there can be many options thought
through due to actions that have happened. Now, leading the United States to have warned Kim

Jong-Un that all options, including military ones, are on the table in dealing. Kim Jong-Un has
made threats to deploy his nuclear missiles to have the United States alarmed. So, Trump has
been having preparations made to protect the U.S and any other countries in when Kim Jong-Un
decides whether he wanted to deploy the nuclear missiles. The precautions that should be taken
on this, are for the government to be prepared for any disasters that can cause mass destruction.
This can save many lives of innocent people.
The last solution I have towards the crisis is economic sanctions because there was once a
time where Mexico and North Korea were both important to the trades in Latin America. In June
2009, Mexico voted of the United Nations Security Council Resolution 1874, which made later
economic and commercial sanctions on North Korea. Mexico was North Korea's most important
trading partner in Latin America. Mexico bought 1% of North Korea's exports in 2015. That
same year, Mexico sold $45 million dollars worth of oil to North Korea. During that same time,
Mexico purchased $13.8 million dollars worth of products from North Korea which had mostly
computer parts. To resolve this goal from this crisis at hand it’ll help Mexico to continue making
the choices of staying out of trouble with working into what the NK wants and keep bringing up
their money.
This crisis needs to be resolved due to the safety of not only ourselves, but everyone
around the planet. We want to propose Peacebuilding, to get ourselves and everyone in on the
planet safe. We also want to propose a conversation to lessen the crisis and to reunite countries to
be at peace. Lastly, we want to propose economic sanctions, so North Korea can make the
money they used to make off of us. Thank you.
