'Train Your Dragon' stays aloft atop North
American box office
How to Train Your Dragon: The Hidden World has topped the North American box office for
a second straight weekend, losing a bit of altitude but still edging the latest Tyler Perry film,
industry tracker Exhibitor Relations said Monday.

Universal's final installment in the Dragon trilogy earned $30 million for the three-day
weekend, down 45 percent from last weekend but still bringing its North American total
earnings to nearly $100 million.

The movie, voiced by Jay Baruchel, America Ferrera, Cate Blanchett and F. Murray
Abraham, recounts the tale of young Hiccup and his dragon Toothless as they go in search of
a hidden world reputed to be a dragon's utopia.

Lionsgate's release of A Madea Family Funeral marks the end of a highly profitable 15-year
Madea franchise, according to producer/director Tyler Perry, one of the highest-earning men
in the entertainment world.

Funeral, with Perry again playing the tough, elderly title character, took in an estimated $27.1
million.

In third place was Fox's Alita: Battle Angel, at $7.2 million. The sci-fi fantasy stars Rosa
Salazar as a nearly human cyborg who has lost her memory.

The Lego Movie 2: The Second Part from Warner Bros. placed fourth at $6.6 million. The
animated tale about an apocalyptic toyland features the voices of Chris Pratt, Elizabeth Banks
and Will Arnett.

In fifth place with $4.7 million was Fighting With My Family, a semi-serious wrestling
comedy starring Florence Pugh as a young woman struggling, along with her family, to make
it big in the pro-wrestling world. Dwayne Johnson as The Rock encourages her on her quest.

Rounding out the weekend's top 10 were:

Green Book ($4.6 million)

Isn't It Romantic ($4.5 million)

Greta ($4.5 million)

What Men Want ($2.8 million)

Happy Death Day 2U ($2.5 million)

BTS to return on April 12
BTS is returning to the music scene on April 12 with new EP “Map of the Soul: Persona,” its
agency Big Hit Entertainment said Tuesday.

Pre-orders for the album will be available beginning Wednesday. The details regarding the
album will be uploaded on BTS’ fan site.

The album arrives eight months after the septet completed much-acclaimed “Love Yourself”
album trilogy last summer. The septet topped the Billboard 200 main albums chart twice last
year, with “Love Yourself: Tear” in May and then again with “Love Yourself: Answer” in
August.

BTS has been dropping clues about the new album leading up to the announcement. The title
of the new album was hinted at the Mnet Asian Music Awards in December, when a short
introductory video that includes line “I’ll show you the map of the soul” was unveiled before
BTS’ performance. Also, BTS member Jin was spotted wearing outfits with words like
“Persona.”

After dropping the new album, BTS is set to kick off a stadium tour of eight regions in May,
following its successful world tour last year.

The band will start in Los Angeles on May 4-5, head to Chicago on May 11-12, East
Rutherford, New Jersey, on May 18-19, Sao Paulo on May 25, London on June 1-2, Paris on
June 7-8, Osaka, Japan, on July 6-7 and ending in Shizuoka, Japan on July 13-14.

Korea’s fried chicken gets sweeter, saltier
South Korea’s sweet and spicy marinated fried chicken, or “yangnyeom chicken”, has
become sweeter and saltier over the past three years, according to a recent analysis of popular
local delivery chicken brands by Seoul City.

The Seoul Metropolitan Government’s Health and Environment Research Institute, in

conjunction with a local civil group, measured the amount of sugar and sodium in the top
four menu items sold by six major Korean chicken franchises. The analysis took place from
August to September 2018.

They looked into four types of chicken -- fried-only, marinated, soy sauce and cheese -- at 30
branches of BBQ Chicken, BHC Chicken, NeNe Chicken and Pelicana Chicken. A total of
105 cases were analyzed.

Results showed that the amount of sugar and sodium in marinated chicken had increased
since 2015, when the Ministry of Food and Drug Ministry conducted a similar review of local
fried chicken.

The amount of sugar in 100 grams of marinated chicken increased 38.7 percent over the
three-year period, from 6.2 grams to 8.6 grams. The amount of sodium content increased 28.1
percent over the same period, from 402.74 milligrams to 516 milligrams.

Moreover, marinated chicken was found to contain the most amount of sugar among the four
types of chicken menu items.

Marinated fried chicken contained 8.6 grams of sugar per 100 grams of chicken on average,
around 17.2 times that of regular fried chicken (0.5 grams). This means by consuming half of
a whole marinated chicken (roughly 300 grams), you fulfil a quarter of your daily
recommended sugar intake (100 grams), according to the researchers.

Meanwhile, cheese chicken contained the highest amount of sodium (627.1 milligrams),
followed by soy sauce chicken (536.4 milligrams), marinated chicken (516 milligrams) and
fried chicken (441.4 milligrams).

The average amount of sodium in half a chicken came to 1,590.7 milligrams, around 79.5
percent of the daily recommended amount (2,000 milligrams).
Seoul City said four of the six chicken brands, with the exception of BBQ Chicken and BHC
Chicken, have pledged to come up with their own measures to reduce sugar and sodium
content in their food, after being informed of the results in December.

Using screens in the dark before bedtime
linked with less sleep in pre-teens
New European research has found that children who use a screen in the dark before bedtime
are less likely to get enough sleep than those who use screens in a well-lit room.

Carried out by researchers from Imperial College London, the University of Lincoln, and
Birkbeck University of London, Britain, along with the Swiss Tropical and Public Health
Institute, Switzerland, the new study is the first to is investigate the effect of using screens in
different lighting conditions on sleep in pre-teens, looking at 6,616 adolescents in Britain
aged between 11 and 12.

The children were asked to report on whether they used their screen devices within one hour
before going to sleep in both lit and darkened rooms as well as their weekday and weekend
bedtimes, how difficult they found it to go to sleep and their wake-up times. Sleep quality
was also assessed using a survey.

Mobile phones, tablets, eBook readers, laptops, portable media players, portable video game
consoles, desktop computers, televisions and video game consoles were all included in the
study.

The findings, published in the journal Environment International, showed that 71.5% of the
children reported using at least one screen device within one hour of their bedtime, and
32.2% reported using mobile phones at night in darkness.

The researchers found that using screens at night is consistently associated with poor sleep
quality, insufficient sleep, and poor perceived quality of life.

Moreover, those who used a phone or watched television in a room with a light on were 31%
more likely to get less sleep than those who didn't use a screen, with this number increasing
to 147% if children used the screens in the dark. Lead author, Dr Michael Mireku,
commented on the findings saying, "While previous research has shown a link between
screen use and the quality and length of young people's sleep, ours is the first study to show
how room lighting can further influence this."

"Our findings are significant not only for parents but for teachers, health professionals and
adolescents themselves. We would recommend that these groups are made aware of the
potential issues surrounding screen use during bedtime including insufficient sleep and poor
sleep quality."
The researchers also note that lack of sleep has been previously linked with impaired immune
responses, depression, anxiety, and obesity in children and adolescents, as well as poorer
academic performance.

Large study again confirms MMR vaccine
doesn't cause autism
A study following more than 650,000 Danish children for over a decade has led researchers
to the same conclusion as previous efforts: the measles, mumps, rubella (MMR) vaccine does
not increase a child's risk of autism.

The study, which followed all Danish children born between 1999 and 2010 until 2013,
compared the number of vaccinated and unvaccinated kids who were diagnosed with autism,
and found no difference.

"We found no support for the hypothesis of increased risk for autism after MMR vaccination
in a nationwide unselected population of Danish children," researchers wrote in the US
journal Annals of Internal Medicine.

The authors, from the Statens Serum Institut, the University of Copenhagen and Stand
University School of Medicine, point out that their study comes to the same conclusion as a
2002 study that followed 537,000 Danish children.

And they cite 10 other studies on childhood vaccines, including six on the MMR vaccine,
which also found no links between vaccination and autism.

In comparison to the hundreds of thousands of children studied for years whose data
researchers say shows no link between the MMR vaccine and autism, the 1998 study that
anti-vaccine proponents still often cite to claim a link included only 12 children.

That study was retracted by the medical journal that published it and the author, who had
falsified the results, lost his medical license.
