ACT II
Scene 6
THE LIGHTS GO UP ON TOULOUSE, SUDDENLY HIT WITH WHAT HE MUST
DO.

The cast members planted in the audience bring

their focus to Toulouse, one or two standing up as
this is obviously not a part of the script of
"Spectacular, Spectacular".

TOULOUSE:
I got it, I got it! Christian! THE GREATEST THING
YOU’LL EVER LEARN IS JUST TO LOVE AND BE LOVE LOVED IN
RETURN!

"Come What May"

All from this point sung unless otherwise noted.
SATINE:
Never knew, I could feel like this. It’s like I’ve
never seen the sky before.
Christian continues walking down the center aisle
of the theatre towards the exit.
SATINE:
Want to vanish inside your kiss. Everyday I’m loving
you more and more.
Listen to my heart, can you hear it sings? Come back to
me and forgive everything!

Season’s may change winter to spring. I love you, till

the end of time.
CHRISTIAN:
Come what may...

The planted audience turns around as Christian has

a change of heart.
CHRISTIAN:
Come what may. Come what may! Come what may. I will
love you!

SATINE:
I will love you!

CHRISTIAN:
Until my dying...
SATINE:
...Dying...

BOTH:
Day! Come what may!
CHRISTIAN:
Come what may!

BOTH:
I will love you, until my dying-
TOULOUSE:
Christian, he’s got a gun! They’re trying to kill you!

The planted audience cast members in the lower

balconies laugh as if this is all a part of
"Spectacular, Spectacular!" The action continues
above the show.

ZIDLER:
Shut up!
TOULOUSE:
Look he’s got a gun!

ZIDLER:
Guards seize him!
ARGENTINEAN:
No problem, go back to work!

TOULOUSE:
No matter what you say!
Despite the fight going on, the song continues.

EVERYONE:
For freedom, beauty truth and love!
SATINE:
One day I’ll fly away!

CHRISTIAN:
My gift is my song!
EVERYONE:
The children of the revolution!

SATINE:
One day I’ll fly away!
CHRISTIAN:
My gift is my song!

BOTH:
I will love you.
EVERYONE:
Come what may

BOTH:
Yes I will love you!
EVERYONE:
Come what may!

BOTH:
I will love you till my--
Suddenly, the Duke runs in from the front lobby,
gun in hand and raging, ready to kill.

DUKE:
My way! My way!
BOTH:
Dying!

DUKE:
My way! My way!
BOTH:
Day!

As he’s about to shoot, Zidler appears from the

side of the stage and punches the Duke as the song
finishes.

SATINE:
(She gasps.)
CHRISTIAN:
Satine?

She continues to cough frantically as Christian

holds her in his arms, her body weakening before
everyone’s eyes.
CHRISTIAN:
Satine, what’s the matter. Tell me; tell me what’s the
matter. Tell me. Oh god, somebody get some help!

Suddenly, everyone is in the panic. The audience

is out of their illusion. This is DEFINITELY not a
part of the show.
ZIDLER:
Fetch the doctor!
The lights dim just slightly, spotlight on
CHRISTIAN and SATINE, who has fallen to the
ground.

SATINE:
I’m sorry Christian, I-I- I’m dying... I’m so sorry.
CHRISTIAN:
Shhh...you’ll be all right, you’ll be all right.

SATINE:
Hold me--
CHRISTIAN:
I love you.

SATINE:
And I--I love you. But...You’ve got to go on Christian.
CHRISTIAN:
(He’s in hysterics.)
Can’t go on without you.

SATINE:
You’ve got so much to give...tell your story Christian.
CHRISTIAN:
No.

SATINE:
Yes, promise me, promise me.
CHRISTIAN:
No!
SATINE:
(A dying wish.)
Yes, that way, I’ll always be with you.

Satine dies.
CHRISTIAN:
(He gives a strangled cry.)
QUICKLY, THE REST OF THE CAST DISAPPEARS FROM THE STAGE, THE
LIGHTS AND SET THAT CAME WITH "SPECTACULAR, SPECTACULAR"

DISAPPEARING WITH THEM. ZIDLER CARRIES SATINE’S BODY OFF AS

CHRISTIAN DROPS HIS BLACK COAT ON THE CENTER OF THE STAGE,
BEFORE HEADING BACK UP TO HIS STAGE LEFT BALCONY. TOULOUSE
STANDS WITH HIS COAT, SINGING "NATURE BOY" UNDER CHRISTIAN’S
NARRATION AS THE TYPEWRITER PROJECTION BEGINS AGAIN.

TOULOUSE:
There was a boy
A very strange, enchanted boy

They say he wandered very far

Very far, over land and sea
A little shy and sad of eye

But very wise was he

And then one day,
One magic day he passed my way

While we spoke of many things

Fools and Kings
This he said to me:

"The greatest thing you’ll ever learn

Is just to love and be loved in return".
CHRISTIAN:
Days turned in to weeks, weeks turned into months. And
then on one not so very special day, I went to my
typewriter and sat down and I wrote our story. A story
about a time, a story about a place. A story about the
people but most of all, a story about love. A love that
will live forever.

The end.
