must pass this quiz with 100%. You can re-do it as many times as you need.
SAFETY QUIZ: If you have not completed/passed the safety quiz by class time of day 3 you will not be
assigned equipment, allowed to shoot and will be marked absent. The safety quiz is due by: 01/08
(Monday) at 2pm.
Attendance:
 ABSENCES: There will be no make-ups for absences in this class. See above grading points. You can
have two absences and still earn an A. The next absence or third absence will lower your grade
beyond an A. (All absences count: however, 2 absences still earn an A)
 There are two sections of Archery. DO NOT ask me if you can come to the later/earlier class. All the
equipment is individually assigned this means that your equipment is being used by someone else.

 IF you missed more than one day due to late add you must meet with the instructor and you will be
given an assignment to make up those points or they will count as an absence.

 You are allowed 2 excused medical absences with doctors’ note, which verifies YOUR illness. Medical
notes from friends or family members are not excused absences. Doctors note must be dated for the
day of the absence. All medical documentation for the quarter must be turned in to the instructor
within 24 hours of the last class meeting missing days will be counted as absences. NO EXCEPTIONS.

 A student who has an extended medical absence that occurs after the first three weeks of the
quarter will be required to meet with the instructor. Each situation will be evaluated on a case-by-
case basis. A contract will be developed to ensure that the student is meeting all the course
requirements.

 You are allowed one field trip excused absence, subject to verification. If you are going to miss
more than one day due to a Field trip you will need to use your absences.

 If you are not in appropriate attire you will not be allowed to participate, marked absent.
(Inappropriate attire: No SANDALS…EVER. No very large dangling earrings
No long and very baggy sleeves.)

 Late Policy: Students will be given a score sheet at the beginning of each class. If you are more than
10 minutes late you will not get a score sheet and will be marked absent for that day. Students will
return the score sheet at the end of the class and score sheets without dates and names will be
tossed. Attendance will be posted on Blackboard at the end of each week.

 There is a possibility if you are more than 10 minutes late the equipment room will be closed.

 No one has permission to leave class early regardless of your next class.

If the weather is rainy or very windy you need to do the following:

FIRST: Check your Cal Poly Email and then Blackboard. There will be an announcement and an assignment
posted on Blackboard. You must complete the assignment within 24 hours of the class that was cancelled –
be sure to see the due date on the posted assignment. If you do not complete the assignment, you will be
marked absent. Remember, it may be raining at your house but NOT at Cal Poly. Do not assume you know if
class is cancelled. You can also come by the equipment cage and see if there is a sign posted cancelling
the class HOWEVER you must check Blackboard.

Locker room and locker room security: Locks and lockers can be checked out at the equipment rooms in
building 43 (men) and building 41 (women). Since the locker rooms are so large, break-ins have occurred
over the years. The Department of Kinesiology and Health Promotion does not guarantee locker security. If
students have valuables, they can request a security bag from the equipment attendant and will be
secured during the time of activity.

Reporting of an Injury During Class: It is very important if you are hurt or injured while participating in this
activity class that you notify your instructor immediately. The instructor of the class will determine how to
treat your injury (on-site athletic trainer, campus health center, or medical emergency 911). The instructor
and the student in the Department of Kinesiology and Health Promotion office must file a report regarding
the injury the day of the occurrence. A follow-up report, completed by the student and the instructor, is due
after the student has returned to class.

University Policy on Student Insurance Coverage: The University does not automatically assume responsibility
for an injury, which results in the need for medical care beyond that, available at the Student Health
Center. You may want to purchase private medical coverage (ASI has a package available to students at
a reasonable cost).

Credit/No Credit Option: A student may elect to be graded on a Credit/No Credit (CR/NC) basis in this
activity course. The university policy is specifically outlined in the university catalog. A student who opts for
CR/NC grading must already be regularly enrolled in the course. Before the end of the third week of classes,
the student must file the CR/NC request form in the Records Office. A student may not change from one
grading option to the other after the end of the third week of classes. This course may not be repeated as
CR/NC if the student has previously been enrolled in this course for the traditional grading option. A course
may be repeated for CR/NC only if a grade of NC has been earned previously. Students will be given a
grade of CR for a grade of “C” or better. A NC will be assigned for a grade of “C-” or below. Courses for
which CR is recorded will be counted as units completed, not included in the student’s grade point
average.

Repetition of Courses: This activity class may be repeated without limit.

Course Syllabi: This syllabus is the instructor’s communication with the students and will be followed. It is the
student’s responsibility to read this syllabus and to ask the instructor to clarify any aspect that is unclear.

Blackboard: All course materials, information, notes, and messages will be posted on blackboard. It is your
responsibility to check this on-line university resource multiple times during the week for class updates.

Student Evaluations: The Department of Kinesiology and Health Promotion takes student evaluations very
seriously. Each student has the right to evaluate each class in which they enroll. There are two types of
evaluations: formal (bubble sheet) and informal written comments. The instructor will ensure that the formal
evaluation has occurred during the last week of the quarter. Informal written comments can be provided
to the instructor for their personal use, however; they cannot be used for faculty evaluation. If the student
would like their written comments to be used for faculty evaluation, they need to write a letter to the
department chair and submit it to the department office.

Student Conduct and Discipline: It is expected that all students are enrolled in this lecture class for serious
educational pursuits and that their conduct will preserve an atmosphere of learning. This includes arriving
to class on time, no wearing of hats in class, showing respect for the instructor, no talking during lecture, no
cell phone texting, no playing computer games, and please stay the entire class time.

University Policy on Dropping a Course: The responsibility for properly dropping classes rests with each
student. Students who do not drop a scheduled class which they are not attending are subject to receiving
a failing grade. If a student needs to drop the course, do so in the first 7 days of the quarter. Otherwise,
they will have to show serious and compelling reason for dropping. Each student is taking up a seat that
other students may have wanted and dropping after the first week of the quarter is disrespectful to your
colleagues.

Academic Integrity: The students are expected to be aware of the University policy on academic integrity.
