PRESENT CONTINUOUS TENSE

Present Continuous Tense (Sadašnje trajno vreme) is formed with verb TO BE (in Present Simple
Tense) and Present Participle.
It is usually used with adverbs like “NOW”, “AT THE MOMENT”, or even words like “Look! She is
running away”.

TO BE:
1. Am 4. Are
2. Are 5. Are
3. Is 6. Are

PRESENT PARTICIPLE:
P.P. is formed when we add ING after the verb  Verb + ING
Example:
go + ing  going
sleep + ing  sleeping

PRESENT CONTINUOUS in sentences:


I am watching TV right now.
He is speaking on the phone at the moment.
MAKING QUESTIONS:

Questions are formed when we swap verb TO BE and Subject:


She is reading a book  Q: Is she reading a book?
They are playing football.  Q: Are they playing football?

NEGATIVE FORM:
Negative forms are formed when we add NOT after verb TO BE:
She is not learning at the moment.
I am not working right now.

PRESENT PARTICIPLE EXCEPTIONS:


1. If the verb ends with consonant and we have short vocal before it, the
consonant is doubled:
a. HitHitting
b. StopStopping
c. BeginBeginning
2. If the verb ends with letter L – Letter L is doubled:
TravelTravelling
3. If the verb ends with letter E, the E is lost:
ComeComing
MakeMaking
TakeTaking
4. If the verb ends with “ie”, “ie” transforms to “Y”:
DieDying
LieLying
