Research Proposal

Why should birth control become a requirement for teens to take? Birth control is the

practice of preventing unwanted pregnancies, especially by use of contraception. Birth control

can be given in many different forms such as, a shot, a pill, etc. The primary motivation for

putting teens on birth control is to prevent pregnancies. However there are other reasons teens

should be prescribed birth control.

I came across this topic for many reason, the most important being the pregnancies that

aren’t planned among teen girls. One article states that “This is not necessarily an unfounded

fear, as approximately 750,000 teen pregnancies occur each year in the United States, many of

which are not intentional. And as of 2009, 46 percent of high school students reported being

sexually active.” When I read this article I was beyond amazed, I had a talk with my best friend.

We discussed this is horrible and change is need quickly. There are other contraceptives that

would work, but the most effective and accessible is birth control. In conclusion birth control

should be a requirement for teens.

Why should birth control become a requirement for teens to take? My feelings towards

my topic are very straight forward. I believe birth control will help a lot of aspects for teens. I

think that making birth control a requirement for teens would make the rate of unexpected

pregnancies go down. I think the requirement of it would lead to safe and convenient methods

for teens. I believe it would be more beneficial than without the use of it. I also believe many

parents would be for the use of birth control. I already know that birth control has many side

effects that teens may disagree with. I also know that the rate of unwanted pregnancies will go

down.

If teens are required to take birth control what would be the rate of unwanted

pregnancies? How many teens would go against taking birth control? Is there another form to

avoid the side effects?
