INTRODUCTION
Welcome to Air Washington Aviation Maintenance Technology School. The school is FAA Part 147
approved, operating under FAA Air Agency Certificate XXXX. The program provides the background
knowledge and practical shop experience to qualify for a Federal Aviation Agency (FAA) Aircraft
Maintenance Technician Certificate, with the Airframe and/or Powerplant rating.
The combined sequence of courses for Airframe and Powerplant technicians require two years of
school. Additional academic work at the college may also qualify the students for an Associate Degree.
The A&P license and an associate degree give the graduate additional qualifications to better prepare
for advancement after employment.
3
AVIATION MAINTENANCE TECHNICAL SCHOOL REGULATIONS & POLICIES
The Aviation Maintenance Program is designed to prepare students for employment in the
aviation/aircraft industry and the attainment of a Federal Aviation Administration Airframe and
Powerplant license. It is a broad course covering maintenance, inspection, overhaul and repair of
engines and airframes. Specialization on one type or size of aircraft is not intended in this program.

are required to meet all of the subject area elements as required by Part 147 appendix B, C, D for
the rating sought.
It is conceivable that a student will require more or less time to complete the required theory and
associated practical projects for each subject area elements. If a student has met the proficiency of
skill as indicated in FAR Part 147 appendix B, C, and D and completed all required theory and
associated practical projects prior to accumulating a minimum of 400 hours in General, 750 hours
in Airframe, and/or 750 hours in Powerplant, the student will be required to perform additional
studies, as long as it is associated with the subject area they are currently accumulating hours
towards and has been approved by the instructor. Additionally, human factors, safety and
environmental issues are embedded into the entire curriculum.
Definitions:
Subject Area means General, Airframe or Powerplant
Subject Area Element means items listed in appendix B, C or D

Transferability
The AMTS may not graduate a student unless they have completed all of the appropriate credit
requirements. The AMTS(s) may credit a student with instruction satisfactorily completed at:
a) An accredited college, university or junior college
b) An accredited vocational, technical, trade or high school
c) A military technical school
d) A certificated aviation maintenance technician school
The AMTS(s) may credit a student seeking an additional rating with previous satisfactory
completion of the General portion of an AMTS curriculum.
5
The AMTS(s) may credit a student with previous aviation maintenance experience comparable
to required curriculum subjects. Verification of previous experience will be done on a case by
case basis with a minimum of two instructors or an instructor and the AMTS college
administrator. Credit to be allowed will be determined through verifying documents of previous
aviation experience and a test equal to the one given to students who complete the
comparable required curriculum subject.
Attendance will be documented daily and recorded each quarter in the student’s master file. All
students will complete a minimum number of hours required and meet all FAA required
proficiency of skill levels for certificate sought in order to complete the AMT program. A
minimum of 400 hours of General, 750 hours of Airframe and 750 hours of Powerplant.
Each student may have an allowable absence of no more than 15% of the required hours for
each subject area (400 General, 750 Airframe and/or 750 Powerplant). If a student is absent
from a scheduled lecture or lab session, the student must obtain missed information/training
from their instructor. All missed material must be made up. Hours missed beyond the 15% of
allowable absences may be made up after normal school hours or additional quarters of
enrollment at instructor discretion.
The AMTS(s) will keep a current record for each student enrolled including:
1. The grades received on each subject required by FAR 147
2. The instruction credited to him/her by instruction satisfactorily completed elsewhere
and an authenticated transcript of the grade received elsewhere.
6
A student must pass each test and obtain a proficiency of skill level. If they do not they will be
required to take a make-up test and/or additional projects to obtain required proficiency of
skill. Each course in which a failing grade is received must be repeated and a satisfactory grade
earned before a student can receive a certificate of completion. A passing grade will be a
minimum of 70%.
Records
The AMTS shall keep a current progress chart or individual progress record for each of its
students showing attendance, tests, grades and any instruction credited and the practical
project or laboratory work completed, or to be completed, (including additional projects) by
the student in each subject area and/or subject area element. All records may be electronic and
will be kept on record for a minimum of two years.
The AMTS will maintain a list of the names and qualifications of specialized instructors.
The AMTS will not exceed the total number of students in the school as indicated on the current
FAA school certificate without FAA approval.
8
Proficiency of Skill Procedure
Each course in the program is assigned average hours for completion. Students who need more or
less time to complete the required theory and/or associated practical projects for a subject area
element will be required to perform additional studies. The primary instructor may assign
additional theory and/or lab projects in the subject area (general, airframe or powerplant) they are
currently accumulating hours towards. For students who need more or less time to reach a level
of proficiency, additional projects sheets are found in the project book.
9
Keep or delete – college specific?
General Objectives
1. To develop good attitudes and work habits.
2. To develop a sense of pride in being a member of the aviation maintenance field.
3. To contribute to an improvement of communication skills.
4. To develop a thorough comprehension of the mathematics and science related to the aviation
maintenance field.

General Information
The powerplant and airframe programs is open to anyone who is at least 18 years of age and is
a high school graduate or has a GED certificate. Applicants must read, write, speak and
understand the English language.
Unsatisfactory Progress
Any student whose grade falls below a C average (2.0) will be placed on probation. Work must
show a definite improvement to enable the student to remain in the program. If a student fails a
quarter or phase of the curriculum, that quarter or phase must be repeated and satisfactorily
completed to qualify for a graduation certificate. A failing grade will require counseling by the
student’s instructor to determine whether the student should be permitted to remain in the
program. Any quarter repeated must be paid for at the regular tuition rate. If a student’s
training is interrupted, all concerned will be notified. All required Federal Aviation
Administration tests must be passed during the normal phase of the curriculum. A grade of (I)
will be issued until all tests are passed. An incomplete grade must be made up within 10 days
into the following quarter.

Shop Safety
We require students to wear approved coveralls, or school uniform shirt and safety glasses in
the shop at all times. No sandals or open toed shoes are allowed in the shop area. Student’s
apparel may become a safety hazard while working in the shop area. One of two things must be
done; stop work and eliminate the safety hazard or discontinue work on the project until
corrective action has been taken. Wearing loose clothing or ties around an unconfined lathe, not
wearing shirts or footwear, welding without goggles, cleaning parts without rubber gloves, etc.
will be considered safety violations. Safety is as important in school as it is in industry.
Tool Room
All tools checked out must be returned to the tool room attendant at the end of each day. Your
instructor must sign your clearing sheet indicating completion of all tests and projects at the end
of each quarter. Note any change of address or phone and turn in the clearing sheet to the
office.
