Retest Older Drivers

For the rest of the semester, we will be working on a research proposal essay over a

controversial topic of our choice. I am planning to write my research proposal essay over why

older drivers should be retested. I already know that many people have different opinions and

views on whether or not older people should be able to drive themselves. There are many studies

that out there the state proof for both sides of the argument. I also know that currently in the

U.S., there are no laws or rules that prevent elderly people from driving.

What interest me about the topic of retesting older drivers, is that there are great

arguments to both sides of the topic which will make for a great research proposal. I will be able

to find evidence easily to support each side. This is also the same reason on why I wanted to

write about this topic. I also wanted to write about this topic because I personally know older

people who are good drivers, but also know ones who are poor drivers and should remain off the

road. Most of all though, I want to find information and statistics for each side to help me pick a

side that I support more.

In order to make a clear argument in the essay, I have to find evidence that contradicts the

support used earlier. A strong clear argument has to have strong reasoning like the supporting

evidence used for the thesis. Other people have different views on the topic from me. I believe

the elderly should be retested for the driver’s license, however others believe the elderly have he

right to drive because they have human right. I get what they are trying to say, but I think the

safety of both themselves, and others is more important. I anticipate that finding strong

argumentative and supporting evidence will be the biggest problem I will run into while

constructing my essay. Overall, I am looking forward to writing this research proposal essay.
