Chapter 22: Providing Beard and Mustache Care

1. Trims beard and mustache when dry.
2. Trims conservatively; cutting too little rather than too
much.
3. If using comb and scissors, cuts the hair on the outside of
the comb.
4. If using beard trimmer, adjusts the guide to the correct
length.
5. Trims beard from in front of the ear to the chin on one
side, then repeats on the other.
6. Mustache: Combs straight down, then starts in the
middle and trims first toward one side of the mouth, then
the other. Does not trim top of mustache.
7. Defines beard line with the scissors or a beard trimmer;
or shaves the neck to define the beard line.
8. Shampoos facial hair as needed; rinses well; dries with
towel. Applies conditioner if patient desires.
9. Combs the beard and mustache with a wide-toothed
comb or brush.
