Death Star Project Instructions

Determine if the Death Star could actually exist as a real, functioning spaceship. This is a group
project. You will make a poster and present the poster in class.

The poster is worth half of your grade. You should have all of these things on your poster:
1. A large title
2. Printed pictures or hand-drawn illustrations of the Death Star (at least 3)
3. The names of all 3 group members
4. 3 reasons the Death Star could work out in real life (really good symmetry, lowest
possible surface area saves costs on materials, etc.). Explain each reason in a way even
a freshman could understand. ;)
5. 3 reasons the Death Star could NOT work out in real life (air resistance if launching from
Earth, not enough matter to be a sphere, etc.) Explain each reason in a way even a
freshman could understand. ;)

The presentation is worth the other half of your grade. You should have all these things in your
presentation:
1. It should cover all 6 of the reasons listed on your poster.
2. It should be funny and interesting.
3. It should showcase the efforts of each group member. That does NOT mean every group
member has to talk during the presentation. It just means that whoever is doing the
presenting should make sure to mention and compliment what the non-talkers
contributed to the project.

You can do this--and do it well! You have been studying 3-D objects, you did well on the test,
and now it’s time to apply what you already know. If you have any questions or difficulties, text,
call, or email Mrs. Rivera.
