Adediwura and Tayo (2007) define academic performance as the display of knowledge attained or skills

developed in school subjects designated by test and examination scores or marks assigned by the
subjects’ teachers. It could also be said to be any expression used to represent students’ scholastic
standing. Academic performance is described at the state level as an evaluation of students’
performance on standardized tests geared toward specific ages and based on a set of achievements
students in each age group are expected to meet (Bell, 2014). On the other hand,Aremu (2003) defines
poor academic performance as a performance that is adjudged by the examinee as falling below an
expected standard.
