2017 IEEE International Conference on Control System, Computing and Engineering, Nov 24 – Nov 26, 2017 Penang, Malaysia

PREFACE
Welcome to the 7th IEEE International Conference on Control System, Computing and
Engineering (ICCSCE 2017). We are very happy to continue organising this annual conference
series encompassing the broad areas of Control Systems, Computing and Engineering. Various
conference tracks are considered to focus niche areas of Control and Systems Engineering,
Automation and Robotics, System Identifications, Signal and Image Processing, Sensors and
Sensing Techniques, Artificial Intelligent and Optimization Systems, Autonomous and
Navigation Systems, Mechanical Systems and Mechatronic, Computer and Information
Engineering, Bioinformatics and Biomedical Engineering, Early Warning and Disaster
Recovery System and Control Systems Applications for Power Engineering. For the past six
years, the conference had established a firm base as a quality conference indexed by IEEE
Xplore® and SCOPUS.

The submission of papers was encouraging with contributions from 15 countries. After going
through a plagiarism check and a double-blind review process, a total of 95 papers were
recommended for presentation and inclusion into the 7th IEEE International Conference on
Control System, Computing and Engineering (ICCSCE 2017) proceeding.

ICCSCE 2017 is sponsored by the Control Systems Society Chapter, IEEE Malaysian Section,
and organized by the Faculty of Electrical Engineering, Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM).
The success of the conference is attributed to the hard work of many volunteers in the
organizing committee, the reviewers and also supports from all presenters and participants. We
are very grateful to all authors, session Chairpersons, reviewers and delegates. Many thanks to
IEEE-CSS Malaysia Chapter for sponsoring the conference, especially on the technical review
and also production of the proceeding. Last but not least, thanks also to the Organizing
Committee, colleagues and friends who have been working behind the scenes; who deserve
this special mention. To all participants, the conference organizing committee wish you a very
fruitful conference and please take time aside to tour or visit the beautiful island of Penang,
Pearl of the Orient.

Warm wishes. Enjoy the conference, Penang and Malaysia.

Abstract - An acoustic transducer arrays is well known applied in acoustic imaging system. This acoustic
imaging system is applied in many areas for example medical imaging and underwater imaging system. D33
mode based piezoelectric acoustic transducer array is designed and developed for underwater applications. The
previous researchers have a problem with sensitivity of transducer. The transducer array is used d33 mode
concept to increase the sensitivity of transducer. The transducer array is fabricated on Printed Circuit Board
(PCB) with sensing element, polyvinylidene fluoride (PVDF) and polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS) as a matching
layer. The transducer array is characterized using Pulse Echo experimental method. This method is normally used
to characterize the transducer in underwater applications. The calibration for hydrophone is made to ensure that
the capability and performance of reference transducer is followed the given specification. The hydrophone and
PAT linear array are tested in test tank. Three pin, Pin A, Pin B, and Pin C are being tested. The result is shows
that Pin B has highest sensitivity, followed by Pin A and Pin C is the lowest. All pins have resonance frequency
at 1250 kHz. The fractional bandwidth for Pin B is at 34%.

Abstract— This paper proposed a technique for smart auto-generate scheduling system specifically for the
educational sector. In constructing a precise and high efficient timetable there are constraints that needs to be
conceded i.e. availability of class rooms, students, lecturers, courses, time slots etc. These are the tedious
elements that contribute to the challenges in producing the same. Considering Faculty of Electrical Engineering
(FKE) Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM), Pasir Gudang campus as a piloted project, the proposed Auto-
Generated Scheduling System (AGSS) is expected to overwhelm these problems. AGSS will provide the
accessibility to the timetable committee to arrange the detail by simply loaded the information i.e. numbers of
lecturer, list of class room, courses and loading detail (ATS) into the developed algorithm Artificial Intelligence
(AI) expert system. Xampp and Visual basic is used in developing the timetable database and Graphical User
Interface (GUI) for timetable system respectively. Based on the loaded information, the system will generate the
class timetable automatically with individual user customizable setting. AGSS is adept to envisage the cost
effective with fast and precise solution on the timetable management thus providing alternative solutions for
timetable management while maintaining quality, reliability, and functionality.

and Roberto C. Dela Cruz

Abstract — The speed of the boat is greatly affected by different parameters considered in the environment. A
boat without speed control system can be hazardous for it can lead to undesirable events such as engine
breakdown or an accident. To mitigate these undesired incidents, a control system is proposed to sustain the
boat's speed by automatically controlling the output power of the engine depending on varying factors such as
wind speed, water current, and the total weight of the boat and payload. First, the needed variables are to be
gathered thru instrumentation and research of the boat’s specifications. Second, to find the relation boat between
the variables on how they affect the speed of the boat and formulating a working equation that can determine the
output power needed to maintain the speed of the boat. Third, is to implement the proposed control system by
using the formulated equation in Laboratory Virtual Instrument Engineering Workbench (LabVIEW) software

Context-Aware Ubiquitous Arabic Vocabularies Learning System (U-Arabic): A Framework Design and
Implementation
Esraa Khalid Alobaydi, Rayan Yousif Alkhayat, Muhammad Rafie Hj. Mohd. Arshad and Essia Ries Ahmed
Abstract— Arabic vocabulary learning and ubiquitous learning have separately received considerable attention.
However, there are few researches that have been conducted on Arabic vocabulary learning in ubiquitous
learning contexts. Thus, there is a dire need for such learning systems due to many difficulties faced by non-Arab
learners in learning Arabic language, which is essential in most Islamic societies to understand the Islamic
principles. This paper studied and analyzed the existing mobile and ubiquitous learning system frameworks in
order to design a new learning framework to be implemented as a mobile learning application that fit with
various needs of the corresponding learners. Accordingly, design a framework for Context-Aware Ubiquitous
Arabic Vocabularies Learning System (U-Arabic) to assist learners in mastering Arabic vocabulary in an
interesting game-play authentic environment at anytime, anywhere utilizing QR-Code sensing technology.
Furthermore, pre-post-tests conducted to evaluate the system prototype to measure students’ competency in
learning and memorizing Arabic vocabularies and to ensure that U-Arabic features are compatible in meeting the
learners’ needs.

Design of FPGA Based AFM Controller for Undergraduate Study
Wei Jie Cheah and Siu Hong Loh
Abstract—The main features of an atomic force microscopy (AFM) that determines the performance of the
system includes the accuracy or precision in the surface image generated as well as the time required in which a
scan can be completed. In this study, a Field Programmable Gate Array (FPGA) is implemented in the developed
low-cost AFM system in order to improve the scanning speed of the AFM system. In the paper, the effects of
using an FPGA for the control and feedback mechanism in an AFM system is reported by performing a
comparison on the quality of the topographic image and speed of an AFM scan where the presence of the FPGA
is the manipulating variable.

Impulse Noise Mitigation using Precoded SCFDMA for Uplink PLC systems
Arsla Khan, Muhammad Arslan Usman, Muhammad Rehan Usman and Soo Young Shin
Abstract—This article proposes a new transceiver design for uplink power line communication (PLC) system
based on
single carrier frequency division multiple access (SCFDMA) for the mitigation of inherent PLC noise i.e.
impulse noise. Moreover, SCFDMA also promises lower PAPR than the conventional orthogonal frequency
division multiple access (OFDMA). Furthermore, this work also suggests the application of linear precoding in
the form of walsh Hadamard transform (WHT) and zadoff chu transform (ZCT) to improve the transceiver
performance. Adaptive bit loading is also recommended instead of fixed loading to circumvent the channel
impairments. Performance of the proposed transceiver in terms of bit error rate (BER) and peak to average power
ratio (PAPR) is evaluated in the form of simulations. Results demonstrate that the proposed transceiver for uplink
PLC performs better than the conventional transceiver in the presence of impulse noise.

Kok Mun Ng and Mamun Ibne Reaz
Abstract— This paper presents the development and validation study of a traffic simulator which was developed
based on the LWR-IM (Lighthill-Witham-Richards – Integrated Model) mesoscopic traffic model. The structure
and functions of the traffic simulator are briefly explained. Validation study on the ability of the traffic simulator
to simulate traffic performances that are compatible to performances from VISSIM (“Verkehr In Städten –
SIMulationsmodell” in German which means "Traffic in cities - simulation model") was conducted using a nine
intersections symmetrical network. Based on the percentage difference and linear regression, average delays and
network throughputs simulated by the LWR-IM based traffic simulator were found to be closely fitted to results
from VISSIM.

Path Loss Model for Crowd Counting
Solahuddin Yusuf Fadhlullah and Widad Ismail
Abstract—Crowd counting using wireless sensing relies on either participatory or non-participatory methods. In
both cases, the algorithm developed would predict the number of people or their density within the area
monitored, for the purpose of crowd safety and management. An alternative to such approaches is the path loss
modelling. A model is proposed to count the number of people by utilizing non-participatory (non-intrusive)
technique supported by Design of Experiments (DOE) statistical method. The DOE method would identify the
significant crowd properties that would inflict major signal losses and thus formulate the model. Results show
that the proposed model has better accuracy compared to the other related works.

Guidelines for selecting Agile development method in system requirements definition
Shinobu Komai, Hiroshi Nakanishi and Hamdani Saidi
Abstract— There are two IT system software development methods, namely Waterfall and Agile. In Waterfall,
the development of software starts after all requirement definitions of the system are completed, while for Agile,
software development starts when one of the functions is completed in the system requirement definition. There
are very few research about the man-hour comparison between the Waterfall and Agile method. This paper
shows how to decide Agile at the beginning of the requirement definition. The guideline for selecting Agile and
conditions to undertake Agile development in system requirements definition provide and validate with opinions
by Agile experts. Finally, consideration for selecting Agile development method in system requirements
definition are drawn out from those results and industrial experiences .

QEEA Algorithm for Throughput Improvement in the LTE Networks
Nurulanis Mohd Yusoff, Darmawaty Mohd Ali, Azlina Idris and Ku Siti Syahidah Ku Mohd Noh
Abstract— The growing demands for wireless communication services pose new challenges in the coming
generation of cellular networks design. In Third Generation Partnership Project (3GPP) Long Term Evolution
(LTE) networks, ever-higher data rate and energy efficiency (EE) are required to meet the increasing demands in
cellular traffic. High data rates can be achieved, however, it requires high level of energy consumption which
needs to be controlled especially in this era of green communication trends. Hence, efficient solutions are
necessary to optimize EE and at the same time achieve high data rates to meet green LTE requirements. This
paper proposed an efficient algorithm, namely, the Quality of Service (QoS) and Energy Efficient Aware
(QEEA). The goal of QEEA is to achieve maximum throughput and improve the EE by using low transmitted
power (43 dBm) which is the lowest power setting according to the 3GPP LTE specifications. The proposed
algorithm is compared against other scheduling algorithms, namely, the Channel and QoS Aware (CQA), Priority
Set Scheduler (PSS), Proportional Fair (PF), Maximum Throughput (MT) and Blind Average Throughput (BAT).
Besides that, the performance of QEEA is also analyzed when the transmit power is set to 43 dBm, 46 dBm, and
48 dBm. The simulation process was conducted using Network Simulator-3 (NS-3) and the performance of these
packet scheduling algorithms were evaluated based on the performance of system throughput. The results showed
that the QEEA algorithm outperformed the other algorithms as it could achieve up to 75% of throughput
improvement in terms of radius ranging from 200 m to 1000 m and increasing number of users in the cell, which
is 167.86% of. Thus, it can be concluded that QEEA algorithm is the best candidate to achieve the highest
throughput.

Simulink Generated Control Algorithm for Nine-phase PMS Motor
Matus Kozovsky and Petr Blaha
Abstract—This paper deals with the nine-phase motor control algorithm development, mainly with its
implementation in target hardware using MATLAB Simulink. This environment allows control algorithm design
using model based approach and the subsequent automatic conversion of control algorithms into C code using
Simulink Embedded coder which is then used in the inverter software. Field oriented control algorithm has been
designed and tuned for this motor. Control algorithm has been tuned according to the measured motor parameters
in simulations and then fine tuned on a real motor. The inverter control unit is based on AURIX Tricore
microcontroller TC275. The code generation in Simulink has many settings. This paper analyses computational
time depending on these settings. Potential problems with floating point math functions are outlined. Automatic
code generation proves to be quick and easy tool for replacement of control algorithms or for fast control
algorithm adaptation to different hardware.

Investigation of Cell Surface Interfacial Interactions of HeLa cell Cultured over Self-Assembled
Monolayer Surface
Muhammad Mahadi Abdul Jamil, Nur Adilah Abd Rahman, Salehhuddin Hamdan and Sayang Baba
Abstract— in this study, it focused on the cell adhesion by study the cell surface interfacial interaction of HeLa
cells cultured over self-assembled monolayer with the assistance of high voltage pulsed electric field inducement
towards wound healing studies. The interaction of the cell with the protein surface is important in order to control
the cell attachment, binding and signaling events that influence the cell structure and functions. Theoretically, the
dynamic interaction between extracellular matrix proteins and receptors on cell membrane leads to cell adhesion,
spreading, migration, proliferation, and differentiation. This study utilizes high-voltage pulse electric field with a
parameter of 2kV voltage, 30μs of pulse duration and single pulse. Cells were plated on the two different type of
surface (protein-coated surface and non-protein coated surface) by using self-assembled monolayer technique.
The findings show that cells migrate and attached more on protein-coated surface compared to the non-protein
coated surface. This shows a positive response and will contribute to wound healing studies.

Ridhwan Abdul Wahab and Ahmad Alabqari Ma'radzi1
Abstract. Electroporation occurs when the electric field is applied and cause the permeabilization of the cell
membrane. It has two type that is reversible electroporation and irreversible electroporation. In this study, it
suggests that reversible electroporation may become an important technique in treating cancer. In this study
cervical cancer cell (HeLa cell) will be used as a sample for electroporation process. After electroporation
process completed, compound extract (Neolamarckia Cadamba Leaves) will be used as anti-cancer within the
culture media. This study will demonstrate a new method for cancer treatment via combination of natural
compound plus the electric field. The treatment aims to investigate and evaluate the electroporation and
compound extract test effect on HeLa cell. By combining this two technique electroporation and absorption of
the compound extract on HeLa cell potentially might be a new technique for anticancer process treatment.

Lightning Impulse Parameters Estimation using Fractional Model Order Reduction
Mohamed Taha, Dia Abualnadi, Omar Hasan and Eyad A. Feilat
Abstract—In this work, the lightning impulse parameter estimation is formulated as a fractional model order
reduction problem. In this method the received impulse is viewed as an impulse response of an unknown
fractional order system. Unlike that of the existing techniques the estimation of the signal parameters is carried
out for an unknown number of modes in which all signal modes are compressed using a proposed frequency
domain template. This eliminates the necessity of identifying all signal parameters that usually needs
computationally demanding matrix analysis. For this purpose, a fitness function is provided such that its minima
are the parameters of the impulse by which the mean curve and the impairments are reconstructed accurately.
Simulation results have shown accurate representation for the underlying impulse for oscillatory and front
overshoot signal models.

Understanding of Infant Behavior and Attention
Mhd Saeed Sharif, Mohammed Hayyan Alsibai and Elena Kushnerenko
Abstract—The field of brain computer interference has grown rapidly with the purpose of reading a human’s
mind, generating a certain output, controlling objects with this output and having an automated understanding of
human reactions and responses to the surrounding environment. Electroencephalography (EEG) may provide an
insight into human behavior and attention. There is a huge need in different fields, e.g. psychology and medical,
for an automated approach that helps the psychologist in dealing with the massive amount of data in a sensible
period. This research study proposes an approach to extract some features from infant EEG signals and evaluate
the effect of the bad or good EEG channels on different EEG segments. The achieved work will provide an
insight about the employment of the most suitable features to represent the EEG data. The acquired infant EEG
data will be deployed to build an objectively evaluated framework that has the ability to provide an automated
understanding of the infants’ behavior, underpin the infant specialists in analyzing the infant attentions for
stimuli within different environments.

Time Interaction with Human Body
Mhd Saeed Sharif and Mohammed Hayyan Alsibai
Abstract— There is a significant increase of strokes, heart diseases and premature death, people need more than
ever to be aware of their vital signs such as blood pressure, heart beats, cholesterol level etc. Monitoring and
analysing this medical data can help increase the awareness of the risk factor of heart disease. However, there is a
huge pressure on medical staff and general practitioners (GPs), therefore this research proposes a medical data
analysis based on Nao robots to meet these needs and it will serve as an automated approach towards a robotics
real-time interaction with the human body. The proposed research offers a new way to allow users to understand
the meaning of their vital signs using a human robot interaction. The developed system has been tested on
publicly available data and simulated data. It can predict the future risk of heart disease based on some data
attributes. Based on the risk prediction, it can feedback the result and the required lifestyle changes to avoid any
related risk.

Abstract— This paper presents a systematic review of evidence based studies on attention detection and
measurement in virtual reality (VR) based learning intervention for children with Autism Spectrum Disorder
(ASD). We carried out a search from three different large databases for articles between January 2008 and May
2017. The objective of this paper is to review learning intervention studies featuring measures of attention as an
outcome variable for children with ASD in a virtual reality environment thereby addressing four specific
questions: what are the types of attention studied in a virtual reality environment for children with ASD, the
attentional behaviors, the technology used in detecting and measuring the attentional behaviors and the synthesis
of empirical evidence across the reviewed studies. In the context of (VR) environment, there are five types of

attention studied in the reviewed articles where nine attentional behaviors were targeted with six different
technologies and strategies. The synthesis of the empirical studies reviewed showed that two out of five types of
attention are always targeted for attention evaluation, four out of the nine types of attentional behaviors are
commonly studied, two out of the six technologies are mostly used and two out of the six strategies of attention
assessment are popularly used. The synthesis outcome of this systematic review can serve as an evidence base for
researchers who are interested in attention assessment of children with ASD in a virtual reality environment.

SCS-SLM PAPR Reduction Technique in STBC MIMO-OFDM Systems
Ezmin Abdullah and Nabil M. Hidayat
Abstract— High data rates transmission and reception is demanded by many wireless applications. STBC
MIMO-OFDM is a diversity scheme used in high data rates transmission exploiting space and time. However,
MIMO-OFDM also suffers the PAPR problem from OFDM system. In this paper, a solution of high PAPR in
MIMO-OFDM system is proposed using SCS-SLM techniques and STBC scheme. This technique is the
enhancement of SLM technique using author’s previous proposed SCS technique. The combination of SCS and
SLM technique in STBC scheme provide another solution of reducing high PAPR. The simulation results show
that STBC scheme using SCS-SLM technique improved approximately 3 dB compare to OFDM without PAPR
reduction technique. Moreover, BER performance is improved approximately 9.8 dB compare with spatial
multiplexing MIMO-OFDM.

NDVI Image Extraction of an Agricultural Land Using an Autonomous Quadcopter with a
Filter-modified Camera
Rangel Daroya and Manuel Ramos, Jr.
Abstract—The Normalized Difference Vegetation Index (NDVI) has been used in applications related to
monitoring crops in agricultural areas. This metric was used with automation to survey agricultural fields, and to
provide an estimation of the conditions of crops in contrast to actual observations and care done by local farmers.
Having several agricultural areas in the country, this can be beneficial. A quadcopter was used as the platform,
equipped with a flight controller and a Raspberry Pi Zero that communicated with a Robot Operating System
(ROS) for commands and data acquisition. Through ROS, the quadcopter was further equipped with a filter-
modified digital camera, and a GPS module. Images taken by the camera were transferred to a computer for
offline processing of the stitching and NDVI extraction of the images. Stitching was done with Speeded Up
Robust Features (SURF) and Scale Invariant Feature Transform (SIFT). NDVI was acquired using the blue band
of the images containing near infrared (NIR) light data, and the red band containing visible light data. The results
showed that SIFT is more suitable for the study where image features had varying lighting and rotation; the
values acquired from the final NDVI image showed consistency with the actual state of the corn crops observed
in the study.

Gravitational Search Algorithm Optimization for Bi-Objective Flow Shop Scheduling using
Weighted Dispatching Rules
T.S. Lee , Y.T. Loong and G. Moslemipour
Abstract— A framework based on weighted dispatching rules is proposed in this study in order to obtain
optimum job-machine allocation for a bi-objective flow shop system. In the proposed method, bi-objective based
dispatching rules are integrated into a single weightage function. Unlike traditional dispatching rules (DRs)
which only provide a fixed schedule for a particular job, this method iteratively improves the schedules by
finding the optimum weightages for every stage. However, such weightage function is rather complex and
attaining an optimum solution is a rather arduous task. Hence, Gravitational Search Algorithm (GSA)
optimization is applied to overcome this issue. The proposed method is indeed an improvement over the
conventional dispatching rule method and it can be easily implemented in the semiconductor industry, in which
flexible flow shop system is the standard practice. A number of random generated cases are used in this study to
demonstrate the performance of the framework by introducing a series of weightages in the selected dispatching
rules.

Measurement and Validation of Disc Spring Arrangement on a Single Bolt Joint for Rotary
Power Tool
Chi Hoe Leong, Rosmiwati Mohd-Mokhtar, Nur Syazreen Ahmad and Cheah Wei Leow
Abstract— Testing method is usually designed to measure the capability of rotary power assembly tools such as
pneumatic screw and bolt drivers. The method requires very precise limit which needed for respective soft and
hard joint torque rates to be linear and shall not deviate from a straight line boundary tolerance of the tested
torque level. However, this requirement limits the usability range of diverse user with different application
especially related to soft joint. Therefore, there is a need to evaluate on how to setup different profile of soft joint
torque rate according to application required by user. This paper presents method to calculate and validate the
disc spring number and arrangement on a single bolt joint to match the required soft joint torque rate profile for
rotary machine tool application. One of the possible ways to setup soft joint test is by using the Belleville / Disc
Spring stacks onto bolt threaded fastener. This method employs conversion from disc spring stacks load of axial
force versus axial displacement, into bolt threaded fastener load of friction lock torque versus angular
displacement. From experiment, it is seen that the load profile of screw such as Lag Screw M6x100mm was
characterized and matched into softwood by a spring washer setup for load range of torque (0 – 5 Nm) and angle
(0 – 100 rads), respectively. The method to calculate and validate the spring number and arrangement to match
the required load was successfully carried out.

Effects of Changing Material Properties on Vibration Modes of Guitar Body
Crisron Rudolf Lucas and Franz de Leon
Abstract—In this paper, the effects of changing the wood material properties, namely: modulus of elasticity,
density, modulus of rigidity (shear modulus), and Poisson ratio on the mode frequencies and frequency response
of a 3D CAD model of a guitar body are investigated. Results show that density is inversely proportional to the
shift in the frequency response and mode frequencies while the Young’s Modulus, Shear Modulus and Poisson
Ratio are directly proportional to the shift in frequency response. Also, it was observed that the high frequency
modes are more affected by the parameter changes as indicated by larger slopes.

Improving VIGV Predictive Monitoring by Developing a Failure Mode Virtual Sensor
Syarizan Ishak and Anuar Ahmad
Abstract— Aero derivative gas turbine which drive a gas compressor is a very critical equipment in oil and gas
topside facilities. This study will focus on the unwanted shutdown of aero derivative gas turbine causes by
variable inlet guide vane (VIGV) issue that affects the production reliability. In modern days, the health of gas
turbine is monitored by complex predictive instrumentation and control system, which normally focus direct on
individual physical sensor operational alarm limit such as “Variable inlet guide vane deviation above hi alarm
limit” and not on failure mode such as “Variable inlet guide vane system drifted outside normal operating
envelope”. Hence, understanding the relationship between independent variables or predictor versus dependent or
response variables and having a failure mode virtual sensor is the key factor to improve the variable inlet guide
vane predictive monitoring by developing a failure mode virtual sensor. Based on the study, the failure mode
virtual sensor is capable to predict the expected operating condition of the variable inlet guide vane at a steady
state condition. This is measured by stability and normality analysis and error simulation using offline data. From
the results analysis, which supported by hypothesis testing, it can be determined that failure mode virtual sensor
could be used to predict the potential failure of variable inlet guide vane at the steady state, by comparing the
deviation between the expected value from the virtual sensor model versus the actual value from the control
panel. The detected deviation, which provides an early detection or a warning mechanism, will help to improve
the maintenance planning and operability actions ahead. This early warning will lead to topside production
reliability improvement due to minimization of unwanted production platform shutdown and its times to
recovery.

The Implementation of the Real-Time Model of the Asynchronous Motor and the Two Mass
Mechanical Load at ZYNQ-7000
Ondrej Bartik
Abstract—In the industry is always a problem to run any algorithm on the real device because, of the possible
unpredictable behavior. This behavior could lead to the temporary malfunction of the device or, in the worst
scenario, to the permanent damage of the device. Because of all these cases, it is necessary to perform a
simulation with suitable model of the device, which reflects the reality as best as it is possible. The way in which
the simulation is done needs to be considered as well. Model In the Loop (MIL) simulation approach and
Hardware In the Loop (HIL) are suitable to test the whole system before it is commissioned. The real time
operateability of the models is necessary to run these types of the simulations. A suitable platform to implement
the models needs to be chosen. ZYNQ-7000 System on Chip device contains Field Programmable Gate Array
fabric and dual ARM Cortex-A9 microprocessor. This device is used in the following text as target platform for
models implementation. This paper is aimed at the real-time model implementation of a Asynchronous motor as
a α-β model together with a Two-Mass mechanical load for MIL and HIL simulations. Mathematical based
models are described in section II. Methodology of the models implementation is described in section III. Section
IV describes the simulation on the ZYNQ device and in the Simulink environment together with the simulation
results. Finally section V concludes results of this paper.

A Temporal-Aware Signature Extraction Method Using Sliding-Window Mechanism For
Scalable, Cost-Effective And Accurate Traffic Classification
Yichiet Aun, Selvakumar Manickam and Shankar Karuppayah
Abstract— Payload-based traffic classification use a subset of highly correlated payload bytes as signature to
identify unlabelled traffic classes. However, these correlations diminish over time due to application behavioural
changes, resulting in lower true positive in subsequent classifications. The short time-to-live of signatures means
that signatures can become outdated quickly, and new set of signatures are needed to preserve classification
accuracy. Extracting new signatures is computational expensive and not scalable to these continuous behavioural
changes. This paper proposed a lightweight automatic signature extraction method that adaptively recalibrate the
signature sets to reflect behavioural transitions using sliding-window mechanism. The algorithm use Leviathan
Distance to detect the optimal number of payload bytes (K) needed to uniquely discriminate traffic classes.
Sliding-k then shrink or expand the k value of the base signature to address for temporal changes instead of
rebuilding new signatures completely. The experimental results showed that sliding-k is effective in reducing
signature length while preserving classification accuracy for continuous traffic classification.

Single Hop Routing Protocol and Energy Harvesting Methodology for Self-Powered Wireless
Body Area Network
Sefat Noor Orni and Hasan Mohammed Tanvir
Abstract— Cluster based single hop routing algorithm along with an energy harvesting model are proposed in the
paper. Since conventional mechanisms to generate electricity would not work in nanoscale, ambient mechanical
force, such as heartbeat, and muscle strain are the few available sources of energy which could be converted to
electrical charge by piezoelectric generator. ZnO nanowires packaged in the nanogenerator will be subjected to
mechanical force and generate flow of electron. And the flow of electron will be harvested in an ultra
nanocapacitor. The proposed model also includes two algorithms; one to form clusters and the other is to transmit
data from the nanosensors to nanorouters. The primary objective of this paper is to seek for a decentralized single
hop cluster based routing protocol that is designed in accordance with energy harvesting model by exploiting and
improvising prevailing mechanisms.

Tampering Detection of Double-compression with the Same Quantization Parameter in HEVC
Video Streams
Ali A. Elrowayati, M. F. L. Abdullah, Azizah Abd Manaf and Abdalrahman S. Alfagi
Abstract— High-Efficiency Video Coding (HEVC) is a new video coding scheme, which has been published
lately in 2013 by the ITU-T and ISO/IEC. As many video coding standards, HEVC is a compressed video
format; thus, its content cannot be intentionally tampered unless decoding the video streams into to the spatial
domain. In order for attackers to tamper any HEVC video content, the video stream should be initially
decompressed into frames, then re-compressed. Recently, the video tampering detection has been used as a tool
for supporting forensics and authentication process. By detecting double compression, the integrity of digital
video can be authenticated. In this paper, a novel scheme for detecting double-compression in HEVC is
proposed, even if the same quantization parameter value is used in both compression processes. Our method is
based on analysing changes in the quantized residual DST coefficients and the values of intra-prediction modes.
This approach increases the ability on discriminating the single and double compression in HEVC videos, which
can be utilized as an evidence of double compression tampering. Several HEVC video classes are used to carry
out the experiments, where the results show a high level of accuracy and efficiency for most quantization
parameter values.

Mohammed Hayyan Alsibai, Mhd Saeed Sharif and Salma Yaakub and Nurul Nadia Nor Hamran
Abstract— Electric Powered Wheelchair (EPW) is a special Electric Vehicle (EV). It is used by senior citizens,
handicapped, disabled, people with mobility impairment or people who have health complaints. Therefore, it is
not always safe to use an EPW independently as users are more subject to fatigue, weakness and emergency
situations. Due to the special needs of EPW drivers/users, the design of the EPW and its controlling system
should fulfill their requirements. This paper proposes a new design for EPW which is suitable for Malaysian
community needs. The design takes in consideration the easiness of the independent use, the price reduction and
the flexibility in changing the controlling method. A smartphone is used as an add-on controlling option besides
to the normal joystick. A health monitoring system which implements Internet of Things (IoT) features is also
presented as an add-on device. The EPW system is designed to be extendable and accepts other add-on devices.
The system is tested in real modes and it is validated as a realtime system.

Abstract—Wheelchair user will face various challenges during travelling from one destination to another. Their
hands will be required to maneuver the wheelchair around. It is difficult for a wheelchair user to identify the
appropriate location to place their luggage within the wheelchair itself. Therefore, luggage carrying following
cart is an initiative that could lighten the burden for wheelchair users. The method used is via colour tracking
system using Pixy CMUcam5 sensor, Arduino MEGA microcontroller, ultrasonic sensors, servo motor, motor
driver and transaxle motor. Pixy CMUcam5 sensor is used to perform colour tracking on target of interest.
Arduino MEGA is the main microcontroller that controls all the input and output data based on the program.
Servo motor is used to steer the direction of the front wheel while ultrasonic sensors are used to perform
obstacles avoidance task. The movement control of transaxle motor is performed through motor driver. Colour
tracking technique is based on surface area of the target of interest and brightness from the background. The field
of view (FOV) of Pixy CMUcam5 sensor is 73.98° when the distance between the sensor and the target is at
1.50m. In addition, the ultrasonic sensors and servo motor are also discussed to identify the performance and its
sensitivity respectively. The maximum error on the ultrasonic sensors is 2.00%. The percentage error for the
servo motor without a load is 1.58% while with a load is 15.74%. Lastly, an effective target tracking system is
successfully designed for this project.

Optimizing Membership Function of Fuzzy Logic Controller via Orthogonal Array: A Case
Study on Temperature Control
Gunawan Dewantoro
Abstract—Fuzzy logic controller (FLC) is one of popular approach to control any process variables which
mimics human inference mechanisms. Due to their intelligent nature and simplicity, FLC has become very
common among any intelligent control schemes. One of the challenges in implementing FLC is regarding to the
tuning method of the membership functions. The fixed points along the universe of discourse, on which the
border of fuzzy sets are defined, need to be determined properly to achieve the desired behavior. This study
proposes a design of experiments using orthogonal array for optimizing the membership function for both inputs
and outputs. The temperature control case was utilized to show the effectiveness of such method. Four control
factors were chosen to conduct the experiments, where the objective is to diminish the integral absolute error of
the step response. Analysis of means was used to determine the optimum membership function and analysis of
variance (ANOVA) was used to find out the most significant control factors. The results show that the
performance of the fine-tuned membership function is better than that of default membership function. The
controller also shows robustness against variation and works properly within input full range.

Abstract—Classification of WMH severity in MRI image can be considered as post processing stage or an
additional procedure after segmentation process. This stage is significant for WMH detection system as it would
further help to refine the image information and thus provide better interpretation for an expert analysis. In
automated WMH detection and classification, the most common feature used for WMH classification is the
WMH volume. As to dated, there is less research conducted particularly to classify the WMH severity based on
intensity levels of WMH. This study is proposed to classify the severity of measured WMH based on its volume
and intensity by automated approach. The MRI images sequences that were used for the processing are T2-WI
and FLAIR images. In the automated WMH detection, FLAIR image was processed at the enhancement phase
using the proposed enhancement technique whilst T2-WI image was processed at segmentation phase using two-
tier segmentation technique. The potential WMHs obtained from FLAIR during enhancement phase and T2-WI
during segmentation phase were mapped in final process to declare the most precise WMH regions in the MRI
image. Finally, the detected WMHs were classified accordingly into three classes of severity namely as
punctuate, focal and large.

Abstract—Microfluidics technology dominates laboratory facilities as microscale devices where large scale of
laboratories equipment no longer needed. These microfluidic devices are very useful in many applications
including clinical diagnostics and cell based analysis, where micro to nano liter range of samples can be used to
run the bioassays. Recently, various study of digital microfluidic devices have been done and the fabrication
techniques used have shown to be expensive. In this paper, a low cost open plate droplet-based digital
microfluidic devices using Electrowetting on Dielectrics (EWOD) technique is fabricated and experimentally
demonstrated. The proposed system features a 2x4 electrodes array on a standard FR4 printed circuit board
(PCB) technology. In this method, open dropletbased microfluidic device is formed from copper substrates with
a gap width of 203.2 𝜇m between the inter-electrode. By replacing the expensive dielectric and hydrophobic
coatings materials such as parylene-C and Teflon-AF, saran wrap (polyethylene film) and cooking oil has been
used, respectively. Additionally, the system has been tested for open EWOD configuration by dispensing 2.5 𝜇L
of distilled water. Thus, a low cost of fabrication method enables the system setup of digital microfluidics

Abstract—Electrocardiogram (ECG) is one of the most important health measurement methods to present the
states of heartbeat as well as provide insights into the abnormalities of patients’ health. In this work, we extract
fetal ECG from the abdominal signals in Abdominal and Direct Fetal Electrocardiogram database by independent
component analysis (ICA) to give the information about their health or state of heart. With ICA, maternal ECG
and fetal ECG will be independently separated and the results are compared with fetal heart rate signal. Another
distinctive feature of this paper is the coefficient function which is used for maternal ECG reduction. The weight
function can reduce the maternal R-peaks and it is good for the abdominal signals where maternal R-peaks are
dominant. The experimental results show that the extracted fetal signals have distinct fetal R-peaks. Although
these signals are still interfered by EMG signals, their quality is rather impressive for fetal heart rate detection as
the average of the accuracy can be achieved at 90.43%.

Output Regulation of Feedback Linearizable System (Single Link Robot Manipulator): A
Cascaded High Gain Observer Approach
Muhammad Saad, Muwahida Liaquat and Muhammad Haras
Abstract— Tracking and manipulating robots have become increasingly common in recent times in robotics.
Cascading high gain observer technique is a useful technique for tracking and manipulating. In cascade high gain
observers, saturation is introduced in between observers with lower dimension. The Cascade high gain observer
is found to be an excellent tool against the high dimension of the system. If the system has dimension “p” and
high gain parameter “k” then the order of the high gain observer is kp while this does not hold for cascade high
gain observer. This paper deals with the cascade high-gain observer for feedback linearizable system satisfying
objectives of output regulation. The nonlinear separation principle is also valid for it. Moreover, Cascade high
gain observer was found to be excellent for the designing of systems having output feedback control. The system
was successfully implemented and it was observed that by using cascaded high gain observers the problem of

Meerkat Foraging Behaviour Modelling
N. F. Azmilumur, M. N. Sobri and W. A. F. W. Othman
Abstract - Suricata suricatta or known as meerkats are social-living mongoose from the Herpestidae group and
live in the desert of southern Africa. They colonise in social groups that co-operate in vigilance, territorial
defence and co-operative breeding. Similar to other social-animals, meerkats also exhibit behaviours such as
nursing, scent marking and grooming. In this work, meerkats’ foraging, and communications behaviour are
modelled and simulated using NetLogo simulation tool. The performance of three foraging styles (walk-and-eat,
stop-and-eat & inspect-and-eat) are studied in depth. Agents are divided into groups of 4 for populations of 16
and groups of 5 for populations of 20. These agents performed two tasks simultaneously while foraging around
the world. The first task is to make links with nearest agents and forage within group. The second task is to detect
agents with food using vision and approach them. There are three types of visions that helps agent to forage
which are eating-vision; corresponds to sensing the food while eating, distance-vision; corresponds to sensing the
foods, and turntowards- vision; corresponds towards any neighbour agents detected eating within world. By
using these visions, communications between meerkats are simulated. Walk-and-eat is used as foraging style and
different patches’ amounts are applied to distance-vision, eating-vision and turn-towards-vision. This simulation
is to evaluate visions impact on time needed to forage for food by meerkats. The location of nest and food are
fixed in the arena and agents can move freely to forage. Result shows that the inspect-and-eat foraging style took
longer time compare to others due to the need of searching, digging, avoiding attack from prey and always be
vigilant are time consuming. Furthermore, by increasing the visibility range of the agent it will lead to more

Abstract—Fast discrete curvelet transform can be used in differentiating between good and defect of mangosteen
surfaces. However, the transformed surface image need to be extracted by features extraction methods to be used
by Linear Discriminant Analysis (LDA) for detecting whether the surface condition is a defect or not. In this
paper, we test commonly used extraction methods consist of mean, energy, entropy, standard deviation, variance,
sum, correlation, contrast, and homogeneity to see which are suitable to be used in detecting mangosteen surface
defects. Furthermore, we use K-Fold Cross Validation method to check the accuracy and 120 images as test
materials. Finally, the highest accuracy is shown standard deviation by 91,7% and followed by the variance by
88,4%.

Abstract— Mangosteen is one of the fruits that has an enormous export potential in Indonesia. However, not all
mangosteen is the defect free fruit. The quality assurance in mangosteen export is done manually by sorting
expert. Therefore, this can lead unstandardized and inaccurate results. The result happens because of human
error. It needs an image processing technology to help the sorting process which one is the defect and non-defect.
In this study, we use one of deep learning architecture that is Convolutional Neural Network (CNN). Therefore,
we use CCN as a detection of mangosteen. CNN proved to be very efficient regarding classifying images. This
CNN method is implemented using 4-folds Validation Cross to validate data accuracy. In the preparation of the
CNN architecture model, initializing the parameter configuration accelerates the network training process. The
results of the experiments using CNN algorithm showed the performance of defect detection on the mangosteen
fruit of 97%.

Abstract— Street food has a major impact on the culture and lifestyle of Filipinos, but because of the lack of
knowledge in proper food preparation, the cleanliness and quality of street food is neglected. Bad bacteria that
causes diarrheal diseases lives on it, and it is hard to detect whether the bacteria are present, without an
instrument like an electronic nose, and image processing. This paper aims to design an electronic nose with gas
sensors that will detect three common types of bacteria on street foods namely Enterococcus faecalis, Escherichia
coli and Staphylococcus aureus; and to classify if the said bacteria are present in the pre-cooking stage and which
bacteria are still present after cooking. Electronic nose system detects the bacteria in the sample street food
during pre-cooking stage and Support Vector Machine detects the bacteria in the sample street food during post-
cooking stage.

Miguel H. Ontog and Jo Kristian Toribio
Abstract— This paper presents an automated solution about the congested traffic in the Philippines. An
implemented policy that enforces the color coding scheme is the Unified Vehicular Volume Reduction Program.
This policy aims to reduce traffic congestions, by restricting vehicles that matches the criteria based on the last
digit of the vehicle’s licensed plate. The system aims to detect coding vehicles in which the image will send it to
the system that notifies authorities. The image of the detected vehicle is first converted to a grayscale image
which is then subjected to a morphological operation. The image is then binarized through thresholding. The
proposed system uses convolutional neural network to recognize the segmented characters. The system will
identify whether the detected car is violating the UVVRP. The expected results shows that the input is an image
of a vehicle which then undergoes image processing with the corresponding algorithms. The output shows the
license plate of captured vehicles which will be stored in cloud storage.

Imaginary Hand Movement Classification Using Electroencephalography
Pornwitcha Somsap, Nipon Theera-Umpon and Sansanee Auephanwiriyakul
Abstract—This paper proposes a method to help patients who cannot control their appendicular organs to
communicate and to control devices via a binary decision by electroencephalography (EEG). We exploited 12
volunteers’ EEG datasets from PhysioNet (EEG Motor Movement/Imaginary Datasets) that contain imaginary
hand movement. For the signal selection, we have selected theta and alpha bands (4-15 Hz), since the signals in
these bands are distinctively changed by the imagination. For the method, we have applied power spectrum
density estimated by the autoregressive model (AR-model) to extract features, and then used principal component
analysis (PCA) in order to reduce those features before the classification step. To measure the quality of the
derived features, we used a set of classifiers including the decision tree, K-nearest neighborhood, and ensemble
classifier. For the experiment, we conducted both intra-user and inter-user approaches. The leave-one-out cross
validation was applied in the intra-user experiment while the five-fold cross validation was applied in the inter-
user experiment. The results show that the highest average of classification accuracy is achieved by the cubic K-
NN (97.08%) in the inter-user experiment and by the weighted K-NN (91.88%) in intra-user experiment.

Abstract—One of the becoming popular biometric modalities is the palmprint. This biometric modality is rich
with information, such as minutiae, ridges, wrinkles, and creases. This research team is interested to investigate
the creases for biometric identification. The palmprint images in this research have been captured by using a
commercially available consumer scanner. For each palmprint image, two square regions on the palmprint image
are extracted for biometric identification purpose. One of the regions is from the hyperthenar region, while the
another is from the interdigital region. Due to misalignment of the hand, the process of extraction of these
regions is tedious and time-consuming. Therefore, in this paper, a computer-aided method has been proposed to
simplify the extraction process. The user only needs to mark two points on the palmprint image. Based on these
points, the palmprint image will be aligned, and those two regions are extracted automatically.

Fast Stereo Matching with Super-pixels Using One-way Check and Score Filter
Masayuki Miyama
Abstract—This paper proposes a novel fast method of depth image generation with super-pixels (SPs) by stereo
matching. The proposed method adopts an existing method in which block matching is performed at the center of
the SP, and the obtained disparity is applied to all pixels of the SP. Then, in contrast to usual cross check which
requires disparity estimations in both left and right directions, we newly introduce one-way check that judges
errors using only unidirectional disparity estimation to reduce the amount of calculation. Furthermore, to improve
disparities, a score filter on SP basis is newly introduced. The filter multiplies the matching score of the
surrounding SP by the weight consisted to the reliability and the similarity, and sums up the weighted scores in
the neighborhood. Even if the block size to be matched is reduced, the score filter can suppress accuracy
degradation, so that the amount of calculation can be further reduced. As a result of the experiment, the execution
time of the proposed method was about 1/160 of full search, about 1/3 of the conventional center matching, and

Practical Security Education on Operational Technology using Gamification Method
Keiichi Yonemura, Kuniaki Yajima, Ryotaro Komura, Jun Sato and Yoshihiro Takeichi
Abstract— The skills of OT(Operational technology) security, has been practiced in the education of ICT
security, and the spread of security knowledge, only a small number of specialist training is insufficient. In
addition, in OT security that emphasizes the availability, to improve the skills of OT security experts is some
non-IT officials, but exercises using the actual equipment is appropriate, it is practically difficult. Therefore, in
order to improve OT security skills, it is necessary to practice countermeasures to know security incidents in the
same situation as reality, and to learn cooperation by teamwork while improving individual skills. By comparing
the results of comprehensive security training and the results of security game, it is revealed that gaming security
teaching materials reflect actual security skills and are effective to measure skill level. We try to educate OT
security for college students using KIPS (Kaspersky Industrial Protection Simulation). KIPS is a game based on
Gamification theory, the game is a security training to learn the basics of cyber security in critical infrastructure
in a short period while having fun. We do this exercise for about two hundreds of students and lecturers with two
scenarios (water plant and power generation station). Originally, KIPS is suitable for non-ICT engineers, because
KIPS needs no deep expertise of security. Therefore, engineering course students can measure security skills
without great effort. The teaching materials of the security game are suitable for security education of OT. In a
virtual but close to actual industrial/corporate information system, it became possible to utilize the knowledge
learned by learners, and it could know their own skill level of security. In addition, individual teaching guidance
(such as refinement of weak points) became easier by using teaching materials according to scenario-based
contents like KIPS, and it was effective for improving security teaching materials.

A Delphi Approach to identifying the severity of Downtime Influence Factors impacting Naval
Ship Operational Availability: Does the Panel Demographic impact the Expert Opinion?
Al-Shafiq Abdul Wahid, Mohd Zamani Ahmad and Aisha Abdullah
Abstract— High Operational Availability of Naval vessels remains a challenge to many navies worldwide
despite increasing and novel approaches to availability. Numerous literatures are published on concepts of
availability optimization, nevertheless so far there has been limited holistic research into the combined human
and equipment root causes of naval vessel unavailability caused by the various downtime or simply put the naval
Downtime Influence Factors (DIFs). To overcome the literature shortage a Delphi approach into the DIFs for the
Royal Malaysian Navy In-Service Support for Patrol Vessels was carried out to shed light into unavailability
causes and to pinpoint the areas of improvement. In the first stages of the Delphi study a panel of 30
professionals directly involved in naval ship maintenance was selected. A common criticism of the Delphi
technique highlights that the selection of experts significantly influences the outcome of the studies. This
research analyses via descriptive statistics whether the demographics of the expert sample had an impact on the
outcome of the expert opinion, concluding that in most cases neither gender, designation, years of experience,
organization type or qualifications impacted the weightage of importance allocated to each DIFs explaining
outliners where applicable.

Techniques

Abstract— The combination of multiple-input-multiple-output (MIMO) and orthogonal frequency division
multiple access (OFDMA) innovation has been perceived as one of the most auspicious system to attain high
transmission data rate and mitigate inter-symbol interference (ISI). However, high peak-to-average power ratio
(PAPR) in OFDMA causes non-linearity at the receiving end of the system. Thus, single carrier frequency
division multiple access (SCFDMA) technology is used to compensate this issue. This study evaluates the
performance of both OFDMA and SCFDMA system based on the bit error rate (BER) and PAPR values. A
comparison of space-time (ST), space-frequency (SF), and space-time-frequency (STF) block coding has been
conducted for both systems to achieve better system performance. The best diversity scheme to implement in
OFDMA and SCFDMA system in order to minimize PAPR and BER were investigated. From the analysis, the
space-time-frequency block coding (STFBC) shows better performance in both MIMO SCFDMA systems. The
result obtained that the SCFDMA system can improve the performance of BER and PAPR about 42% and 47%

Robotic Probe Positioning System for Structural Health Monitoring
Uvais Qidwai, Ali Ijaz and Ali Akbar

Abstract—Structural health Monitoring (SHM) is a very critical component for sustainable civil and mechanical
structures in modern urban settings. The sky-scrappers and huge bridges in modern metropolis today are essential
aspects of the prosperity and development of a country but at the same time they present a great challenge in
terms of maintaining and sustaining the structures in a good health. Due to the complex designs of these
structures, it is typically very dangerous to do SHM tasks through human personnel. Deployment of a monitoring
team with various forms of equipment and scaffolding accompanied with their hoisting machines becomes
extremely exorbitant for the maintenance and planning of the structures causing unnecessary cost-spill on other
areas of the available budget. In this paper, a robotic system is presented that can perform a coarse level of scan
of a tall building using drones and the probe deployment robots (PDR). The drones provide a rough estimate of
the location of possible defect or abnormality and PDR inspects the anomaly more closely. In addition, the coarse
information about a possible defect can also help in deploying other means of inspection in a much lower cost
since the whole structure needs not to be inspected.

Al-Shafiq Abdul Wahid, Mohd Zamani Ahmad, Sunarsih, Nur Hanani Ahmad Azlan, Arifah Ali,
Mohd Najib Abdul Ghani Yolhamid, Mohamad Abu Ubaidah Amir Abu Zarim and Aisha Abdullah
Abstract— Navies worldwide have applied with a varied degree of success various maintenance concepts to
achieve certain targeted operational ship availability. Nevertheless, few concepts focus on both the human and
equipment factors that drive the unavailability or downtime. These factors can be designated as Downtime
Influence Factors (DIFs). In previous research the severe DIFs had been identified via a 5-Stage Delphi
conducted with experts in the field of Patrol Vessel (PV) In-Service Support (ISS) Contracts in Malaysia. By
prioritizing and rating these DIFs based on Risk Assessment it was possible to determine a Severity Index
formula. In a first step, the Severity Index (SI) prioritized the DIFs that are severe. In a subsequent step, the
interrelationship of the DIFs was analyzed with the help of SPSS and the SI index was adjusted to take into
account interrelationships. The resulting adjusted SI assists PV ISS contract stakeholders to pinpoint and focus
on human and equipment factors that are the main causes of downtime.

Gas Turbine Fault Diagnostics using Fuzzy Systems
Farbod Rahimi and Tamiru Alemu Lemma
Abstract— Gas turbines are clean, compact, cost effective and efficient assets that are being used widely in
distributed power generation. They operate at elevated temperature, pressure, high speed and often exposed to
erosive materials resulting in several types of failures such as corrosion, fretting fatigue, and fatigue-creep
failures. Early detection and diagnostics of a fault is the key to optimize the maintenance cost and reduction in
production downtime. While there are assorted methods for fault detection and diagnostics in gas turbines, this
paper provides a useful review on the fault detection and diagnostics methods that have used fuzzy systems only.
Publications from years 2001 to 2017 are included. The results show that (i) the gas path analysis models rely on

the availability of large amount of data, which is not often the case in the real-life situation, (ii) there is lack of
proper documentation for expert opinions done in fuzzy diagnostics, (iii) the hybrid fuzzy systems are gaining
more popularity, (iv) the studies on fault diagnostics under dynamic conditions are quite limited, and (v) Wiener-

Abstract—This paper presents a segmentation method which combines watershed transform and an active
contour. The implementation of watershed transform on the object commonly produce over-segmentation of
homogenous color region while the active contour is effectively produce a smooth segmentation. The pros and
cons between these two methods will make the combination better than before. The active contour method is
applied after watershed pre-segmentation process in order to segments the change of detection mask. The
resulting contour is created form the incertitude on the motion induces. The original contribution consists in the
use of active contour is to correct the segmented line created by watershed. To solve this problem, a distance map
is applied in the over-segmented area. The specific parameter is introduced to correct the segmented line based
on the evolution of the active contour equation. The proposed method improves watershed segmentation as well
as produce smoother result than watershed segmentation.

Abstract- Fault location depends on several factors that all possibilities should be taken into analyze for accurate
estimation. This paper present the performance of features extraction condition on impedance based method
either taking only the faulted line current as an input into Artificial Neural Network (ANN) or all three phase line
current. The performance of system develop are compared and decided to choose the suitable features for this
fault location. Simulation studies have been carried on power system model using MATLAB SIMULINK. The
faulted current signal taken using double line of transmission line model. This studies have been extracted into
five features from the three phases which are delta minmax, amplitude, mean, standard deviation and energy of
the output waveform. The proposed study is evaluated using MSE results from testing data. Conventional method
using only one of the faulted line to estimate fault location meanwhile by using ANN, most researchers using all
three phases as features into ANN to locate fault but there have no reason regarding the selection of suitable line
for better result in fault location. However, by carrying out this studies, it shows that by using three line have
significant performance compared to using faulted line.

Abstract — Nowadays, Powered Knee Orthosis (PKO) becomes an important assisting device in helping
rehabilitation activities such as hemiplegic gait, neuropathic gait and stroke gait. A few existing PKO are mainly
designed to assist the rehabilitation activities. However, most of the developed PKO restricted to external power
to drive them to perform knee flexion or extension. This leads to discouragement of natural volunteer able-body
in assisting movement with PKO and avoid the use of functional electrical stimulation, FES simultaneously with
the developed PKO. This paper presents the design and development of a novel powered knee orthosis with high
back-driveability that allows knee free swing activities and knee extension with PKO for rehabilitation purposes.
The PKO designed uses the Outrunner type of brushless DC motor (BLDCM) as an actuator that used to give an
external power to drive knee flexion or extension and also able to allows natural volunteer able body movement.
A knee free swing and knee extension experiments were carried out and tested on three healthy subjects by
measuring the knee angle movement both with and without the PKO. The results demonstrate the effectiveness of
the proposed PKO. Thus the developed PKO is able to assist knee free swing and knee extension activities with
highly back drivability with no external power.

Abstract—This paper present a comparative study of speed control DC motor by using two different artificial
intelligent controllers which are fuzzy logic controller (FLC) and artificial neural network (ANN). Intelligent
controllers have gained wide popularity in the application of controlling system including DC motor speed
control. The type of motor used in this project is separately excited DC motor. DC chopper is used to control the
speed of DC motor by controlling their armature voltage of the motor. The switching of the DC chopper is
control by using pulse width modulation (PWM) technique. This paper consists of two parts which are software
development and hardware implementation. The software part is the development of the DC motor model with
the controller to achieve the desired speed by using MATLAB/Simulink. In the hardware part, DC chopper is
used to convert fixed DC voltage from power supply to variable DC voltage. IGBT is used to control the variable
DC voltage and hence, achieve the target speed of the DC motor. DSPACE controller board is used for real-time
interface of Simulink model and hardware development. In summary, this paper demonstrated the efficiency of
both controllers designed for the DC motor in term of speed control in both simulation and hardware
implementation.

Abstract—Recently, the use of an open source software in developing a quadcopter for multi-tasking application
becomes preferable due to its flexibility, customisability and cost saving compared to the commercially available
unit manufactured by drone’s company. This paper reports the study on the implementation of open source
software for mission planning activity of quadcopter. The study is carried out to investigate the stability and
accuracy of two flying modes; loiter and auto navigation that is implemented using Mission Planner software. It
is found that loiter performance is very stable for all the measured parameter especially for altitude higher than
3m. For auto navigation, it shows that the planned trajectories can be successfully achieved using waypoint setup
in the selected software platform. However, different pattern of trajectories gives some variation in terms of
accuracy and time taken to complete the given task. In general, the use of the selected open source platform is
found to be suitable for loiter based application at high altitude and mission planning application with minimal
waypoints and less turning points.

Abstract— Renewable energy (RE) is one of the leading industry blooming around the globe. The usage of
renewable energy benefits the entire nation in all ways such the social, culture and environment. Besides that, the
hike in the fossil fuel price in the market increase the demand in industry for the search of renewable energy as a
conventional method to generate electricity. However, installation of solar photovoltaic (PV) for electricity
generation might be not a good mitigation for the problem whereby some internal issues to be rectified and to be
stabilized for the better power quality to be generated. Therefore, this paper study on voltage stability analysis on
power grid with integrated solar PV system. The stability of voltage has to be taken care to avoid major problem
occurrence such as voltage sag. Besides, the installation of PV can produce different PV penetrating rate which
indirectly affects the voltage stability. This studies on the voltage stability problems integration of photovoltaic to

Abstract- The rapid growth of renewable energy such as photovoltaic (PV) system has triggered the idea to create
a low-cost monitoring system involving different types of integration. Currently, remote monitoring has attracted
people interest with graphical data that display in real time system instead of numerical data. However, most of
the monitoring systems are too expensive and cable connected where all the data are transmitted via local area
network (LAN) connection or fibre optic. Thus, in this paper, a low cost monitoring system is developed by
employing the use of a Raspberry Pi microcontroller to remotely monitor the performance of a small scale
standalone solar PV system. The monitoring system is able to acquire, store and display solar PV parameters
such as voltage, current and ambient temperature in real time. The measured parameters are displayed and act as
a virtual monitoring system by using the graphical user interface (GUI) that provided in Node.js. Hence, with this
remote monitoring system, solar PV analysis can be done in real-time with low cost implementation.
Furthermore, this remotely monitoring system allows the flexibility of system to be extended with bigger scale of
PV plant.
