Is Jesus called God in the new Testament?

Here are passages that support the deity of Christ.

a) John 1:1-4 (ESV). 1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was
God. 2 He was in the beginning with God. 3 All things were made through him, and without him was not
any thing made that was made. 4 In him was life, and the life was the light of men. 5 The light shines in
the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it.

John 1:14 (ESV). And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we have seen his glory, glory as
of the only Son from the Father, full of grace and truth.

b) John 1:18 (ESV). No one has ever seen God; the only God, who is at the Father's side, he has made
him known.

John 1:18 (NASB). No one has seen God at any time; the only begotten God who is in the bosom of the
Father, He has explained Him.

John 1:18 (NIV). No one has ever seen God, but the one and only Son, who is himself God and is in
closest relationship with the Father, has made him known.

c) John 20:19-28 (ESV). 19 On the evening of that day, the first day of the week, the doors being locked
where the disciples were for fear of the Jews, Jesus came and stood among them and said to
them, “Peace be with you.” 20 When he had said this, he showed them his hands and his side. Then the
disciples were glad when they saw the Lord. 21 Jesus said to them again, “Peace be with you. As the
Father has sent me, even so I am sending you.”22 And when he had said this, he breathed on them and
said to them, “Receive the Holy Spirit. 23 If you forgive the sins of any, they are forgiven them; if you
withhold forgiveness from any, it is withheld.” 24 Now Thomas, one of the twelve, called the
Twin,[d] was not with them when Jesus came. 25 So the other disciples told him, “We have seen the
Lord.” But he said to them, “Unless I see in his hands the mark of the nails, and place my finger into the
mark of the nails, and place my hand into his side, I will never believe.” 26 Eight days later, his disciples
were inside again, and Thomas was with them. Although the doors were locked, Jesus came and stood
among them and said, “Peace be with you.” 27 Then he said to Thomas, “Put your finger here, and see
my hands; and put out your hand, and place it in my side. Do not disbelieve, but believe.” 28 Thomas
answered him, “My Lord and my God!” 29 Jesus said to him, “Have you believed because you have seen
me? Blessed are those who have not seen and yet have believed.” (Hindi po nagulat ang mga Apostol at

made you overseers, to shepherd the church of God which He purchased with His own blood.

e) Romans 9:1-5 (ESV). I am speaking the truth in Christ—I am not lying; my conscience bears me
witness in the Holy Spirit— 2 that I have great sorrow and unceasing anguish in my heart. 3 For I could
wish that I myself were accursed and cut off from Christ for the sake of my brothers, my
kinsmen according to the flesh. 4 They are Israelites, and to them belong the adoption, the glory, the
covenants, the giving of the law, the worship, and the promises. 5 To them belong the patriarchs, and
from their race, according to the flesh, is the Christ, who is God over all, blessed forever. Amen.

Romans 9:1-5 (NIV). I speak the truth in Christ—I am not lying, my conscience confirms it through the
Holy Spirit— 2 I have great sorrow and unceasing anguish in my heart. 3 For I could wish that I
myself were cursed and cut off from Christ for the sake of my people, those of my own race, 4 the
people of Israel. Theirs is the adoption to sonship; theirs the divine glory, the covenants, the receiving of
the law, the temple worship and the promises. 5 Theirs are the patriarchs, and from them is traced the
human ancestry of the Messiah, who is God over all, forever praised! Amen.

to the point of death, even death on a cross.

Philippians 2:6-8 (NIV). Who, being in very nature God, did not consider equality with God something to
be used to his own advantage; 7 rather, he made himself nothing by taking the very nature of a servant,
being made in human likeness. 8 And being found in appearance as a man, he humbled himself by
becoming obedient to death—even death on a cross!
