3. SIMPLE TROUBLESHOOTING
3.4. SAFETY NoTICE
Before analyzing/checking measurements, make sure that the unit or module being repaired is
disconnected from the power supply, unless it is required to be powered up. Make sure any
dangerously high voltage remaining in the circuitry is discharged and that there is no voltage source
with life threatening potential. It is imperative to ensure that the main supply is switched off and the
main terminals and DC busbars are de-energized.
Also, make sure that the working enviranment is safe and will not cause personal injury, damage to
the unit, orto the environment. If repairs are being carried out in the field, make sure that the supply
voltage cannot be switched on during service, and the action of the service personnel will not cause
unnecessary disturbance or interruption to the process.
‘Busbars, internal components and circult boards are alive and carrying mains,
potential when any VACON® AC drive is connected to 2 power supply, This voltage is
extremely dangerous and may cause death or severe injury, if anyone comes into
> contact with exposed components.
3.2 VISUAL CHECKING
3.2.4 CHECKING THE COOLING TUNNEL
+ Remove the main cooling fan (see the instructions in Chapter 4.2]
+ Check the cooling tunnel and clean the heat sink and cooling tunnel, if necessary
3.2.2 CHECKING THE POWER UNIT
+ Toaccess the power module, see the instructions in Chapter 4.11
+ Check for possible burn marks, broken components or foil on boards, power module or
rectifier module. I they are badly burned, replace the boards, power module and/or rectifier
module without testing,

3.3 CHECKING THE MAIN FAN
Accessing the fan
+ See the instructions in Chapter 4.2
Testing the fan
+ Supply the fan with 48Vp¢ and check if the fan starts to rotate. See the plus and minus pins
in Figure 7. Also the control input needs to be connected to +48Vn¢ for the fan to operate.
+ Ifthe fan does not start to rotate, it needs to be replaced. See the instructions in Chapter 4.2.

3.4 MAIN CIRCUIT MEASUREMENTS
Forward/reverse bias measurements
+ Measure the forward and reverse bias of the free wheeling diodes and IGBTs from the main
terminals, See Figure 8 and Table 4.
+ The main terminals are shown in Figure 9 below.
+ Also check the main circuit diagrams in Chapter 1.
