CRITERIA FOR SELECTING A THESIS GUIDE

The basic criteria for selecting a thesis guide are as follows: -

 Adequate and appropriate knowledge of the topic: - It is essential for the guide to have an in
depth knowledge of the topic to be guided. The guide should have adequate experience and
acquaintance of the selected project.

 Agreement on the area of interest of the guide and the student: - The area of interest of the
student and the guide should be the same as it will enhance the efficiency of the guide to
provide inputs for the selected project.

 Compatibility and understanding between the guide and the student: - There is a human
psychology that two people can interact and share their ideas when they have the same
frequency in there thought process. Actually it is easier for any person to talk to another if they
are compatible. As, communication is the most integral part during the consultation with the
guide for the thesis, compatibility remains one of the critical criteria for selection of the guide.

 Accessibility and proper interaction between the guide and the student: - The guide should be
approachable for discussion as and when required according to the curriculum. The guide
should have adequate time for discussion with the thesis student.

 Freedom of work proceedings: - The guide should allow the students to implement their own
thoughts. The original idea of the student should be groomed by the guide according to his/her
experience and exposure of the topic. The original thought of the research should be
encouraged.

 Adaptability to the new techniques and changes: - The guide should accept and encourage the
new thoughts and innovative techniques proposed by the thesis student. The guide should be
aware of latest proceedings of the field.
