ONE PACK ELASTOMERIC SILICONISED
ACRYLIC SEALANT

Dr. Fixit Gapfill

Description
Dr. Fixit Gapfill is a single component elastomeric sealant based on siliconised acrylic polymer, properly
selected pigments & fillers, biocide & many additives. It is used for filling gaps and cracks between
various building materials because it is highly flexible with good movement accommodation.

Specification
Meets the requirement of ASTM C 834-1976 standard.

Areas of Application
£ Joints between windowsills, sanitary core, stairs, ceiling, walls and skirting boards.
£ Sealing gaps in doors and windows to prevent dampness in walls.

£ Building joints of wooden, metal and aluminum window frames to concrete and brickwork.

£ Filling external as well as internal wall cracks prior to painting.

Features & Benefits

£ Ready to use – One component pasty sealant to be used directly from the pack.
£ Easy application – Soft consistency paste hence easy to apply.

£ Suitability of application - Suitable for indoor & outdoor applications.

£ Non-sagging – Non- sagging and ideal for vertical application.

£ Eco-friendly – Water based, no organic volatile matter and thus eco friendly.

£ Multipurpose - Suitable for different substrates like concrete, wood, PVC and aluminum.

£ Paintability - Water based & solvent-based paints can be used.

£ Repairability – Old sealant (aged) can be repaired with fresh material.

£ Recovery – Excellent recovery after extension, so performs well in cracks & construction joints.

£ Staining – Does not stain cementitious substrates after application.

£ Surface finish – Very smooth surface finish.

Joint Design
£ For various reasons, different types of joints are provided with perfect width & depth ratios. Depending on
the horizontal or vertical movements the cured sealant should retain its original shape after the deformation
due to expansion /contraction. So width depth ratio is very important.
£ Joint size should not exceed 1/2” width by 1/2” depth.

JOINT WIDTH (MM) WIDTH /DEPTH RATIO

For 3 to 6 mm joint width Depth shall be equal or double
For 6 to 12 mm joint width Depth shall be 1: 1 (equal) or half

Method of Application

1 S U R FACE P R E PA R ATI O N
£ The joints / cracks must be clean, free from dust, coatings, cementitious material and other contamination.
Clean the surface by using wire brush. Wipe out the dust by air blower & wet cloth.

2 P R I M I N G
£ Highly porous surfaces like cement plaster & wood should be pre-treated with Dr. Fixit Gapfill diluted with
water at a ratio of 1:2 as a primer coat and to be applied by brush.

3 M A S K I N G TA P E
£ Fix the masking tape on the both sides of joint leaving exact gap of filling. This will make joint look good and
uniform.

4 A P P L I C ATI O N
£ Dr. Fixit Gapfill is supplied in a ready to use plastic Tube + Cartridge form. Cut nozzle at an angle to desired
bead size. Remove the cap and tamperproof seal. Screw the nozzle on to tube. Squeeze to extrude Dr. Fixit
Gapfill firmly against joint surface or plaster cracks and compact to ensure complete contact and a good
adhesion.
£ In case of 450 gm cartridge cut nozzle at an angle to desired bead size. Cut the tip of cartridge and fix the

nozzle. Load the cartridge into the sealant gun and fill the joint with DR. FIXIT GAPFILL

5 F I N IS H I N G
£ Immediately after filling the joint, the sealant should be tooled either with pallet knife or similar tool of
required size. Tooling is essential to remove air bubbles if any and to fill up all voids by the compacting action.
This results in proper adhesion to the sides of the joint. It also gives better aesthetic & smooth surface finish.
£ Remove masking tape once the sealant is in touch dry condition.

6 C L E A N I N G
£ After sealing, the tools and equipments should be cleaned immediately with soap water and the cured sealant
can be cleaned by acetone, Methyl Ethyl Ketone & thinners.

Precautions & Limitations

£ Use only at temperature above 5o C.
£ Not recommended for heavy traffic area application.

£ Should be completely cured before exposure to water.

£ Not recommended for area under high water pressure.
