Η Βενεζουέλα θα πουλήσει τις επόμενες ημέρες στα Ηνωμένα Αραβικά
Εμιράτα 15 τόνους χρυσού από τα αποθέματα που φυλάσσονται στα
θησαυροφυλάκεια της κεντρικής τράπεζάς της, με αντάλλαγμα ρευστό
σε ευρώ, όπως ανέφερε ένας υψηλόβαθμος αξιωματούχος στο
πρακτορείο Reuters.

Η πώληση αυτή εντάσσεται στην προσπάθεια που καταβάλει η χώρα να

παραμείνει φερέγγυα, εν μέσω των πολλών προβλημάτων που
αντιμετωπίζει.

Σύμφωνα με την ίδια πηγή, οι πωλήσεις χρυσού φέτος ξεκίνησαν στις 26

Ιανουαρίου, με 3 τόνους. Πέρσι είχε εξαχθεί χρυσός αξίας 900
εκατομμυρίων δολαρίων στην Τουρκία.

Συνολικά, το σχέδιο είναι να πουληθούν 29 τόνοι χρυσού, εξήγησε ο

αξιωματούχος που μίλησε στο πρακτορείο υπό τον όρο ότι δεν θα
κατανομαστεί. Στα τέλη Νοεμβρίου η Βενεζουέλα διέθετε αποθέματα 132
τόνων στα δικά της θησαυροφυλάκεια και σε εκείνα της Τράπεζας της
Αγγλίας.

Η κυβέρνηση κατέφυγε στην πώληση χρυσού μετά την πτώση της

παραγωγής πετρελαίου, τη γενικότερη οικονομική κατάρρευση της χώρας
και τις κυρώσεις που επέβαλαν οι ΗΠΑ. Την Τετάρτη, η Ουάσινγκτον, που
στηρίζει την αντιπολίτευση στην προσπάθειά της να εξαναγκάσει σε
παραίτηση τον Μαδούρο και να οργανώσει νέες εκλογές, προειδοποίησε
τραπεζίτες και επενδυτές να μην αγοράζουν χρυσό από τη Βενεζουέλα.

Ο Ρεπουμπλικανός γερουσιαστής Μάρκο Ρούμπιο, έστειλε ένα μήνυμα,

μέσω Twitter, στην πρεσβεία των ΗΑΕ στην Ουάσινγκτον,
προειδοποιώντας ότι όποιος μεταφέρει χρυσό της Βενεζουέλας μπορεί
να υποστεί κυρώσεις.

Ούτε η κεντρική τράπεζα της Βενεζουέλας, ούτε η πρεσβεία των ΗΑΕ

στην Κολομβία (καλύπτει και το Καράκας) ανταποκρίθηκαν σε ένα αίτημα
να σχολιάσουν τις πληροφορίες αυτές.
