Building boards with green concept

Product life cycle stage
KALSI and ETER are asbestos-free building boards and roof
sheets recommended by the Green Building Council Indonesia DESIGN
(GBCI) as green building material and registered in the Green
Listing Directory published by INIAS Resource Center.
PRODUCTION
KALSI and ETER products fulfil the criterias of a Green Product MATERIAL
and contribute to your Green Building, based on following
criteria: TRANSPORT

USE/REPAIR
END LIFE

1. MATERIAL
This step is where the temporary product, including the production material and component. That temporary product is intended for
the reduction of the environment impact.

Information:
Kalsi and ?ter are produced without asbestos (no chrysotile, amosite, chrocidolite or any other type of asbestos). The production of
Kalsi and ?ter are using reinforcement fibre from organic fibre (such as cellulose fibre) which is safe for the environment.

2. DESIGN
In this step, design and materials are selected carefully before producing the product, including design that appropriate for the
environments.

Information:
Kalsi is produce using the special technology from experienced International company under Etex Group – Belgium that spread
across the world.
Kalsi is produced with selected raw materials, through the autoclaved process (high temperature drying process to eliminate
moisture from fibre cement materials) to get a stable and long lasting product.

3. PRODUCTION
The Product is produce using materials and components. This step includes the product that helps reducing bad impact to the
environment in the production process.

Information:
Kalsi are produced by using renewable resources and recycled material. PT Eternit Gresik use 4 ton/hour Crushing Machine to crush
the waste material in to a certain size that could be mixed with the other raw materials. The positive impact from this process is that
there will be no dry waste material from the production of Kalsi.

In addition, PT Eternit Gresik has decided to build 2000m³ rain water reservoirs. The facility could give independent water supplies
for 8 month in a year. The reservoirs have a built in overflow mechanism which allow over capacity of rain water automatically flown to
the factory drainage facility and distributed orderly to the sewer nearby the factory. The re-design of water recycle process circuit
allow PT Eternit Gresik to have a longer water sedimentation process. The longer time for sedimentation process gives positive
contribution by having more reusable clear water, which could be used in the production process and avoid having bad situation such
as mineral sedimentation flown to drainage environment. The sedimentation will be auto recycled on the production process.

4. Transport
In this step, materials, tools, and products are delivered in a good manner, which resulting in low environment obstacle. This step
also including the product where the transportation method is chage and product delivery in a unique packing.
Information:
Kalsi are produced by PT Eternit Gresik, located in Gresik-Indonesia, the strategic location gives an important role in reducing
carbon foot-print in the delivery process to many cities in Indonesia. The delivery process of Kalsi are supported by wooden palette.
The design of the palette is customized as each product technical data. For Kalsi palettes are placed in between Kalsi product every
±80cm.

5. Use/Repair
In this step, products are used by the consumers/users, maintenances, and repairs are conducted. This step includes the energy
saving and the environment cleaning, also extend the product cycles by repairing and improving the product lifetime.
Information:
Kalsiare produced by using selected raw materials and processes with special technology which makes this product have strong
durability and high stability. With an appropriate installation technique, Kalsi products could be reused again as building material for
the other project.

6. End life
In this step, products are disposed and recycled, this step includes the product that gives contribution in reducing the end waste
volume and could be recycled, which is the product that is easy to be used again as a resources, easy to recycles, and appropriate
with the well established recycle system.
Information:
The material outcome from Kalsi and ?ter production process could be used again as production raw material, this give contributions
in reducing the final disposal volume. In addition, PT Eternit Gresik also establishing an agreement with PT Holcim Indonesia Tbk, to
send the extra waste from ?ter production process to PT Holcim Indonesia's cement mills in Bogor. The waste could be used as a fuel
in that factory.

Solutions & Benefits

Wide thickness range

PT. Eternit Gresik is the only company in Indonesia to have the

technology to produce kalsi fibre cement boards with such a
wide range of thickness from 3 mm up to 20 mm for all kinds of
applications: ceiling, partition, cladding, facade, flooring...

Recessed Edges

This type has a 27 to 32 mm (a) width and 0.8 to 1.2 mm (b) depth
thinned edges. Recessed edges serve at the junction between 2
boards, to obtain a perfect and invisible joint (flush joint) when the
gap between 2 boards is filled with - .
There are two types of recessed edges:
1. “Recessed" 2 (R2): with 2 thinned edges (in the length sides of
theboard).
2. “Recessed" 4 (R4): with 4 thinned edges (in both length and
width sides of the board).
Both types R2 and R4 are applicable for Kalsi boards with a
thickness (c) of 6 mm and above.
Benefits:
Perfect and even joints between 2 boards.
Reduction of jointing compound
- consumption.
Faster and easier work when jointing the kalsi boards.

Dimensional stability

Kalsi cement cellulose boards have some unique features and

benefits when compared with others and those with asbestos
content and air-cured. The autoclaving process (high
temperature and pressure) makes kalsi boards very stable, with
very small dimension variances when changes in humidity and
temperature occur. Their stability allows the boards not to crack
and the joints between the boards not to be submitted to Sisi recessed 4
shrinkage and expansion. These characteristics are fully
appreciated in interior (hygrometry variances due to the use of air
conditioners) and exterior (variances due to the rain, sun and
climate changes) applications.

Lightweight and dry construction system

A construction system known as "Lightweight and Dry

Construction System" is a construction system that has a light
load, as well as a dry system which does not require mortar,
concrete, bricks and water (cleaner and faster).

The Kalsi lightweight systems allow the construction of ceilings,

partitions, facades, floors...
The Kalsi lightweight construction systems are made of different
components: the Kalsi boards, and also different framing and
structural components adapted to each different application
(studs, metal frame, screws, reinforcement fiber tapes, jointing
compounds, sealants,...). All component together are giving
structural support to the building. The Kalsi systems allow the
easy and fast installation of water pipes, electrical cables and
wires, etc.
Among others, the benefits of the Kalsi systems compared to
conventional construction systems (bricks and mortar,
concrete...) are:
Fast and easier work, allowing cost saving on construction
time.
Lightweight, allowing saving on foundations and structural
costs.
Cleaner work as no water or dusty materials are required.
Higher earthquake resistance thanks to its lightweight and
flexibility.

Products information & standard dimensions

Kalsiclad 12 is a 12 mm thick board for facades (external

cladding) applications.
Kalsiclad 12 has a better mechanical and impact resistance
compared with Kalsiclad 12 (10 mm thick) thanks to its increased
thickness.
Kalsiclad 12 is to be applied on an adapted steel frame (adapted
design, dimensions, thickness of the steel, distance between
studs...), depending on the wind load, the dead load, the height of
the building, the earthquake risk level...
When used for facades (external cladding), the joints between the
boards can remain opened, or the joint can be filled (semi-visible
joint) with an adapted sealant specifically designed for climate
and movements resistance (polyurethane type, with UV The best installation practice for
resistance and if possible paintable).

use a polyurethane and UV resistant joint sealant, which can with Alcabond + Alcaplast
resist exterior conditions. It is necessary to avoid the joint sealant
directly touching the frame. It is recommended to use a backing

Finishing / Painting:
The painting process should follow the paint manufacturer's
Masking Tape procedures. The paint to be used must be a special paint for
facades and resistant to weather condition. In the painting
process, paint the entire surface once as a first layer. After the first
layer is dry, apply the other layers accordingly to the paint
manufacturer’s instruction. It is also necessary to paint the edges

Notes!
It is not recommended to use an internal compound for filling the
gap. For semi visible joints system, it is only recommended to use
a polyurethane sealant, U.V resistant.
To choose the adapted frame of structure for external cladding
applications, please don't hesitate to consult us, because it is
dependant on building type, height of building, wind load and
other parameters.

surface finishing Theater - Kolombia

Kalsifloor 20 surface may not be exposed, it must be covered

with a floor finishing material. Kalsifloor 20surface may be
finished with various floor finishings such as carpet, vinyl,
parquet, and ceramic tiles. It is necessary to note that the room
function relates to structure load, such as the dead and live
loads to be endured by the floor. The usage of carpet, vinyl,
and parquet finishing is suggested only for minimal load spaces
utilization, such as residential, office, small office, etc. In case
of a heavy load area, it is suggested to add mortar and ceramic
tiles (see detail). This floor finishing application may also
reduce vibrations effects.
