Sechelt Village Community Association -

Special Directors Meeting

Meeting date & location: April 11, 2019, 2:00 at 5780 Blvd, Sechelt
Attendees: Darla Dickson, Judy Hoeppner, Douglas Smith, Jim Lafferty

Business Cards:
There is currently a promo of $5.00 for 100 cards. Should we order
some? Decision was made to order 100 with SVCA info on them
including phone number, website, email. We then all keep a few on hand
out for handing out.
West Porpoise Bay Estate:
Cathy Calder alerted us to issues regarding the West Porpoise Bay Estate
development. Judy and Doug have both had a look at her concerns.
Quite a number of OCP regulations are being ignored. The neighbouring
condo residents, (C. Calder), definitely have legitimate concerns. The
original development plan was approved by the District of Sechelt (and
we don’t understand how they possibly could have done so) and
apparently has since been changed significantly without getting re-
approved. We drove to the site at the end of our meeting so we all could
get a sense of the issues. Doug said he would contact DoS and request a
copy of the development plan for us to review.
SHORA Website:
Judy looked at SHORA’s website to see if there is anything we might
like to incorporate in ours. The decision was that their additional pages
don’t really apply to us. However, should a large on-going issue be
raised we will start a special project page regarding that.
Membership Fees:
We decided that fees would be the same for everyone, regardless of
whether or not the live in our SVCA area. As long as someone pays, they
have the right to vote. Further to that, we will not establish separate rates
for condo groups.
SCAF meeting (previous Tuesday):
Doug attended: DoS Council was there. SCAF members complained that
communication was very poor from the DoS. Their excuse is that they
have been extremely busy. They promise to improve.
We no longer have a liaison assigned to us by the DoS since the new
council was elected. However, we are welcome to invite any of the
councillors to our SVCA meetings.
The OCP should be reviewed every 5 years. We are, by regulation, to be
part of the renewal process. DoS said they were unaware of this
regulation. In future (and it should be soon) we will be included in OCP
review.
Boundary Expansion:
The West Sechelt Community Assn president and Doug reviewed the
west boundary and felt that an uninhabitable space going right down to
the Ocean would be a sound natural boundary.
In order to understand exactly where that boundary falls we drove to the
area in question. It was determined that the boundary that is on the DoS
map in fact already delineates the area as discussed with WSCA. The
result of all this is that everyone now has a clear understanding where
the boundary is.
