“Knowing yourself is the beginning of all wisdom.

Aristotle said these words more than 2000 years ago, but I believe these words ring truer
today as they did back then.
But how?
Many people choose to focus their attention on the behaviour of others. Some people get
mesmerized by looking at themselves in mirrors. Neither of these extremes lead to a
propensity for healthy introspection and hence we tend to block the entire view of what's
really happening.
So what really is the meaning of knowing yourself?
It is to introspect and unearth your strengths and flaws. Do not let your strengths control you
and at the same time do not beat yourself up thinking about your flaws. Treat them both as
equals. Once you do that, you realise that you no longer feel entitled and that you are a small
speck in this universe. You also realise that you do not know much about this world at all, or
that your acquired knowledge thus far amounts to nothing all.

Knowing that you don't know anything is a start in knowing yourself. And that is the
"beginning" of wisdom. The very beginning.
