Readers Response

My presentation is on the literary theory reader’s response. This is about how the reader

affects the meaning, ideas, and interpretation of a piece of literature. When anyone reads a novel,

they all receive a specific and unique idea about the story and what it means to them. Many

theorists think that what the reader has to say, what they see in-between the lines that are written,

and what past or present events helps the reader to relate to the story is as important, is not more

important than how the author intended for the piece to be seen.

In my presentation I start by stating the definition. The basic definition of a reader’s

response is when we focus on the reader or audience's interpretation of a piece of literature over

what the author says the work is. I did this because I feel that this is the most important

information to be taught out of this whole presentation. Without them being able to understand

what this is and how it works they will not know how to use it. The next piece in my presentation

is what someone should ask themselves when analyzing a piece of literature. I know later in the

year this will be used and having the ability to know what questions to ask when looking at a

piece of literature will be helpful. The second to last slide talks about the purpose of readers

response. I added this because I felt like it would pull the audience in more to understand why

this is used with both important schools reading and enjoyment reading. Lastly, I added

something about Implied Readers. This shows that certain books are targeted to a specific target

market.

I feel that my presentation will be very helpful to those who don’t understand what this

is. Also, I feel like it gives an insight into why everything in books matches to certain people but

not others. Readers response is something that everyone needs to know.
