Director of Human Resources:

As a Student Nurse graduating in May, 2019 from the University of Arizona, I was thrilled to see
your hospital offer a New Graduate Registered Nurse Residency within the Emergency Room,
Intensive Care Unit and Post Critical Care Units. My familiarity with critical care nursing and
emergency healthcare will make me a valuable member of your nursing family that is grounded
through evidence-based practice and the ability to adapt, excel, and maintain resilience under
pressure.

My passion for nursing began as a senior line medic in the United States Army. During my
honorable four year service, I completed a nine month tour in Afghanistan, managed critical and
routine patient care in both field and hospital environments, along with leading and training three
junior medics. My experiences within the military healthcare system not only sparked my
passion in critical and emergency care, but also the nursing focus of the patient centered care.

I have prepared to be a critical care and emergency nurse by completing a 180 hour emergency
room preceptorship at Oro-Valley Hospital along with a 400 hour externship in a telemetry unit
at the Southern Arizona Veteran Affairs Health Care System. Throughout both experiences, I
upheld the role and responsibilities of that unit’s nurse. I demonstrated acute prioritization of
complete and complex patient assignments with minimal preceptor guidance. This included
successful proficiency in all nursing skills within the student nurse scope of practice along with
ongoing patient management, monitoring, and detailed documentation. My time in both brought
me an expanded level of critical thinking along with a clear and calm focus in fast-paced
environment while excelling as a nurse

My experience brings perception and the necessary skills that are recognized by your hospital’s
nurses within the profession and the community. Thank you for considering me for this
residency. I look forward to speaking with you in the future.

Sincerely,

Ryan Tarr
